The famous German writer Otfried Preusler is one of the few in his native country who managed to embody children's fantasies and dreams on the pages of books. After school, Otfried went to university, but the outbreak of the war prevented him from getting an education. When he was very young, he went to fight and was soon promoted to lieutenant in the Wehrmacht. There he had to grow up too quickly.

Preusler met his future wife before leaving for the war. After returning from a 5-year captivity, he sought her out, the girl continued to believe that her lover was alive and would soon be found. And so it happened, at the very first meeting he made Anella Kind an offer, to which she agreed. The couple managed to build a happy personal life, which gave them three daughters - Regina, Renata and Suzanne.

The war years were too difficult for Otfried. In 1944, he was captured and for the next 5 years was listed as missing. Over the years, he was forced to work at a construction site, a brick factory and a quarry, while at the same time the young man studied Russian. When the war ended and Preusler was released, he returned to his hometown, where he sought out his relatives, who were sure that he had died.

From that moment on, the author's life returned to its former rut. Otfried moved to Germany, got a job as a school teacher. It was there that he realized that his mission was to write fairy tales for children. Soon the man designed the first story in the bibliography, called "The Little Water One." It tells the story of a water family living in a reed house on a pond. After a while, they have a baby, around which the plot is tied. Preysler's book teaches children to love their parents, always be careful and protect the world around them.

The author published "Little Baba Yaga" a year later, the man composed a story for her when he put his daughters to bed. They did not obey their father, and then he threatened that Baba Yaga would come and take them away. After a while, the author transferred this fantasy to paper, judging by the plot, the main character turned out to be not so evil. World fame in the biography of the writer appeared later, with the release of the fairy tale "Little Ghost".
