Biography
Nikita Andreevich Krylov is a Ukrainian UFC fighter, the first citizen of his country with whom the organization has signed a contract. The athlete began his combat career with karate, then continued with mixed martial arts.
fact
Childhood and youth
Nikita Krylov was born on March 7, 1992 in Ukraine, in the mining village of Zaporozhye near the city of Krasniy Luch. Andrey Krylov himself was fond of sports: he played football, was engaged in boxing and freestyle wrestling. When the boy was 11 years old, his father brought him to the Kyokushin karate section. According to Nikita's recollections, the first few years he often lost - almost all the guys were older than him.
At the age of 13, the future athlete began working in the mine - at first only in the summer, on the surface and illegally, since children cannot be involved in work. In total, Nikita has 2 years of mining work behind him. Thanks to them, he gained experience in physical work, understood how money is given, and realized that he did not want to give his whole life to the mine.
In addition to the mine, the young man worked part-time in the market, having received the title of master of sports, and taught physical education.
After completing 11 classes, Nikita left for Lugansk and entered the law faculty of VNU named after Oleg Dahl. However, after the first year, the athlete realized that jurisprudence was not his business, and returned home to earn money on his own.
The fighter got into sports thanks to his father's friend - he had acquaintances in the corresponding circles in Moscow. When the young man was offered to return to martial arts, he agreed and thus got into MMA.
fact
Martial arts
Until the age of 17, Nikita's biography was only karate, and Krylov earned his first titles in it. In 2008, he won the European Junior Championship, and at home he took the Cup in the adult Kyokushin karate competitions. The next in line was the world championship in Tokyo, after which Krylov could get 1st dan, but the young man did not go there.
The reason was the financial issue: Nikita's father paid the expenses, but the coach promised that after winning in Europe, the athlete would receive a scholarship. However, Nikita never saw the money, and the young man refused to help his father - after the financial crisis, he considered such spending unreasonable.
Krylov began training in MMA in Makeevka under the leadership of Valery Andreev. At first it was not easy to train - after karate, mixed martial arts were difficult, Nikita only owned kicks. However, neither the coach nor the athlete himself gave up, and this quickly brought results.
The athlete spent his first fight in mixed martial arts in Donetsk, having won by technical knockout. After that, the frequency of Nikita's fights was high - by the end of the year he had 13 heavyweight fights, 12 of which were crowned with Krylov's victory.
The first defeat happened during a duel with Vladimir Mishchenko, when Nikita had to surrender after the opponent used the "triangle with his hands". In 2013, Krylov tried to take revenge, but the fight once again ended in favor of Vladimir. Overall, the year was successful - Nikita won the Gladiators FC heavyweight title.
The statistic of 14 wins by 2 losses attracted the attention of M-1 Global. Initially, in the quarterfinals of the Grand Prix in heavyweight, Nikita had to fight with Magomed Malikov, as the alleged opponent, Jeff Monson, was injured. But due to the fact that Malikov was also injured, the German fighter Gabriel Tamp came out against Krylov. The fight turned out to be difficult for Nikita - the German took advantage of the choke hold, but Krylov resisted and at the end of the 1st round became the winner.
The victory led to the fact that Nikita became interested in the UFC, and the athlete was the first Ukrainian fighter to sign a contract with her. The first fight in August 2013 ended with a technical knockout of Soa Palelei, a fighter from Australia.
The second fight also became difficult, despite the constant training. Shortly before the fight, Krylov fell ill and told the manager that he could not win in such a state. He still persuaded the fighter to fly to Chicago, and during the weigh-in, it turned out that Nikita weighs 98 kg - almost the lower norm for a heavyweight. Opponent Walt Harris was much harder and later admitted to Krylov himself that he was extremely surprised when the opponent's weight was announced before the fight. Nevertheless, fate was favorable to Nikita - having a good start, he was able to win in just 25 seconds.
After that, the athlete decided to change the category and, having dropped kilograms, moved to light heavyweight. In the spring of 2014, in this capacity, he lost to American Owins Saint-Preux, but later defeated another fighter from the United States, Cody Donovan, and Bulgarian Stanislav Nedkov. The fight with Brazilian athlete Marcus Rogerio de Lima was postponed twice, but still took place in August 2015. Twice during the fight Nikita fell under the "guillotine", but in the end he emerged victorious, using rear strangulation.
In 2016, Krylov won 2 fights - with Francimar Barroso and Ed Herman, after which he himself was defeated by the Latvian athlete Mikhail Tsirkunov. In addition, 2016 was marked for fans of mixed fights by a failed match between Nikita Krylov and Abdulkerim Edilov. Children's fights took place at the MMA Grand Prix Akhmat in Grozny, which greatly angered the Russian president of the MMA Union Fedor Emelianenko.
Edilov, in response to the comments of Emelianenko, expressed on Instagram the assumption that the fighter is simply jealous, and his indignation is a consequence of alcohol abuse. Nikita considered such comments inappropriate and challenged Abdulkerim to a fight. The fight was approved, but never took place: at the time of the conflict, Edilov was disqualified, and by the time of his restoration Krylov was no longer a member of the UFC - the athlete refused to sign a new contract due to financial disagreements.
After the UFC, Nikita moved to the Russian Fight Nights Global for 2 years. Having won a number of victories, Krylov decided to fight for the title of champion of the organization in light heavyweight. To do this, the fighter had to enter the ring against the Brazilian athlete Fabio Maldonado. In the 2nd round, Nikita managed to knock out the reigning champion and win the honorary title himself.
fact
Personal life
Nikita's personal life is fine: he is happily married, and in 2016 he became a father. The athlete called his son Dobrynya, as he had planned from school. On Instagram, Krylov leaves mostly pictures of training and battles, but photos with his family are also found there.
The fighter met his wife Ekaterina during his school years. The relationship was not always smooth, the girl even flew abroad and almost received Canadian citizenship, but eventually returned to Nikita. By education, Ekaterina is a translator, for some time she was fond of fitness bikini. Krylov honestly admits that he is not interested in having his wife work and wants her time to belong to the family - especially since Nikita is not against having more children.
The soldier is baptized in the Orthodox faith and believes in God. This is evidenced by the tattoo on the chest - the Christogram, the cross of Constantine.
And the nickname Al Capone, by which the world of mixed martial arts recognized Nikita, turns out to be not his idea. The athlete himself was not interested in this image, it was invented by the first manager. Therefore, having changed the representative, Krylov first of all got rid of the nickname.
fact
Nikita Krylov now
In the fall of 2018, the athlete returned to the UFC and fought Jan Blachovic, an athlete from Poland. The battle did not bring victory to Nikita - Ian held a "hand triangle" and Krylov was forced to surrender.
Now Nikita lives in Moscow, and he has problems with entering his homeland. Krylov openly supports the unrecognized DPR and LPR, and spoke in Donetsk. Because of this, the fighter was included in the lists of the Myrotvorets website with the wording “participation in the propaganda activities of the DPR terrorist organization”.
The fighter continues to compete in the light heavy weight category - his height is 191 cm, and his weight is 93 kg.
On September 11, 2018, in an interview with the Sport-Express website, Krylov said that he had applied for Russian citizenship.
