Native Muscovite Nikita was born on July 10, 1991. At the age of four, the boy first went on the ice, and since then figure skating has become the main thing in his life. Nikita Katsalapov's mother, who took her son to the sports section, is also a professional skater. However, due to a serious injury, the woman had to say goodbye to sports.

In addition to figure skating, Nikita was attracted to acting. The boy played on the stage of the Aleko children's theater. At some point, Katsalapov was faced with a choice: ice or theatrical stage. Nikita chose figure skating and was right.

At first, the talented skater trained under the guidance of Marina Druzik, then Natalia Lubinskaya became the mentor of the novice athlete. Like many stars of pair skating, Nikita Katsalapov started with singles, having achieved good results. But then the boy's mother insisted that his son try his hand at ice dancing. Nikita's first partner, Elena Ilinykh, was also helped by her mother.

Unfortunately, Nikita and Lena at first could not find a common language, and after a while Ilinykh left to train in the United States. Nikita continued to prepare for singles. In parallel with training, he graduated from the Institute of Physical Education.

Immediately after these successes, the Katsalapov-Ilinykh pair began to perform in adult competitions. The first test for the skaters was the European Championship, in which, under the guidance of the notorious Nikolai Morozov, they won first a bronze medal, and then an honorary "silver".

In an interview, Elena Ilinykh repeatedly emphasized that Nikita Katsalapov is a reliable partner who is always ready to hedge and lend his shoulder. However, it did not go without conflicts. According to the Ilinykhs, when both partners skated alone for a long time, it is quite difficult to adjust to the second person and, if necessary, give up leadership in a pair.

In 2014, Nikita Katsalapov and Elena Ilinykh were considered the main favorites of the Russian national ice dancing team. And even despite the previous failure in the World Championship (where the couple won only ninth place), the partners came up to the 2014 Olympics in excellent shape. The competition in Sochi was serious. The main rivals of the Russian skaters were Fabian Bourza and Natalie Peshala, a couple from France, and Tessa Vertiu and Scott Moir from Canada.

In ice dancing, the winners were Americans Meryl Davis and Charlie White. The Canadian couple took the second place, and the couple of Katsalapov and Ilinykh, having demonstrated the original program to the music from the ballet "Swan Lake", took the third place at the Sochi Olympics. But in the team competition Katsalapov and Ilinykh had no equal, and the athletes achieved the coveted "gold".

The next stage, which took place in Russia, brought the couple second place. But the figure skaters finished the World Championship only in ninth position.

After a while, Nikita Katsalapov had to undergo surgery on his shoulder. Fortunately, this practically did not affect the training schedule of the athletes, and already in September 2016, the couple took fourth place in the Chinese Cup. A week later, the skaters showed the fifth result among the participants of the Grand Prix stage in Sapporo, Japan. But the European Championship was much less successful for Katsalapov and Sinitsina: the athletes closed the top ten figure skaters.

In April 2017, Alexander Zhulin announced that the couple would once again train with him. At the Challenger tournament, the guys made a couple of annoying mistakes, including a fall during the short program, but took 3rd place. The Japanese stage of the Grand Prix turned out to be more successful and brought the skaters a silver medal, and the American one - a bronze one.

The national championship ended in trouble for the couple: right during an arbitrary dance, Nikita was injured - an ankle ligament rupture. The skaters withdrew from the competition and ended the season ahead of schedule.

2018–2019 became more successful for the couple. Katsalapov overcame the consequences of the injury, and they took 2nd place at the Ondrej Nepela Trophy. In 2019, the athletes became two-time champions of Russia. As a result of the free dance, they lost to Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin a few tenths of a point, but won the tournament in total for 2 programs.

At the European Championships in Minsk, Nikita and Victoria were predicted gold medals, but, unfortunately, Katsalapov fell during a series of twizzles, which threw them to 5th place. The points for the second dance made up for the failure a little, and the pair eventually became the second. At the world championship in Japan, the skaters also won the silver medal.

In January 2020, Katsalapov, together with his partner, performed triumphantly at the European Championship, having managed to bypass 5-time championship leaders Gabriela Papadakis and Guillaume Sizeron. They showed the best result in the free program, after two competition days they scored 220.49 points and received gold medals.

The competition with the French pair for the European championship came out incredibly tense, giving rise to accusations of bias on the judges. The Papadakis - Sizeron pair reigned in ice dancing for several years, and few believed in the victory of Katsalapov and Sinitsina over them. However, the Russians showed incredible tenacity: after the rhythmic dance, the gap with the French was only 0.05 points. In the final performance, Papadakis and Sizeron made a noticeable mistake, but the judges clearly ignored it - there was no penalty in the score for the technique. When the final count was going on, incredible tension reigned in the stands. As a result, the Russians still became the first with a tiny gap of 0.14 points.

For 2020, Katsalapov and Sinitsina were scheduled to perform at the World Championships in Montreal. Now athletes are at their peak, fans and experts are looking forward to new performances and awards from them.
