Natasha began to “seize” her troubles and by her 10th birthday she weighed 45 kg (with an average value of 30 kg). The girl spent her free time in front of the TV. One day she saw a story about pedophiles operating in Austria. The cases of kidnapping of children became so frequent that the school told how to protect oneself from the attack and not end up in the hands of a criminal.

On the morning of March 2, 1998, Natasha's mother gave Natasha a portion of hatred intended for her ex-spouse. Therefore, a 10-year-old girl went to school depressed and, judging by the book "3096 Days", thought about suicide.

Halfway to the Kampusch school, there was a car in which a suspicious-looking man was sitting. Coming closer, the girl concluded that in front of her was "an unfortunate person", from whom "there was an air of defenselessness." Despite warnings from her inner voice, Natasha walked past the car. And then the man dragged Kampusch into the car.

The kidnapper was Wolfgang Priklopil (1962). It was later revealed that he suffered from dissociative identity disorder. Natasha called one personality "dark" and the other "schizophrenic." Priklopil's mood changed unpredictably: he could carry the victim in his arms, and the next moment he could kick him.

Initially, Wolfgang convinced the girl that he was her protector, not her kidnapper. Allegedly, there are people to whom he should pass Natasha. Maintaining a positive image, Priklopil fulfilled many of the captive's wishes - he allowed her to play with the computer, bought paints for painting, but did not let her out of the room.

For a long 3096 days, Natasha's "home" was a basement, the area of ​​which was 5 square meters. The "prison" was so strong that, according to Kampusch, the kidnapper "took at least an hour to open many doors and bolts." At first, there was nothing in the room except a thin mattress, but over time, wallpaper appeared on the walls, the interior was enriched with lockers, a bunk bed, a TV and a radio.

In the fall of 1999, Priklopil ordered Natasha to choose a new name. After a long choice, the kidnapper and the victim settled on Babian. Six months after the abduction, Natasha found herself “upstairs” for the first time, and two years later she was walking around the house. The kidnapper carefully erased any traces of it. The man suffered from obsessive-compulsive disorder.

In an instant, Natasha became Priklopil's maid. She had to scrape and polish the surfaces until they acquired the perfect shine. The kidnapper could not stand it when the girl's long hair remained on the sofa, so he first put a plastic bag over her head, and then began to shave her head.

After the second year of imprisonment, the formerly good-natured Priklopil became embittered. He often yelled at the girl, beat her, teased her for being overweight, and ultimately reduced her diet to a minimum. After her release, Natasha weighed 45 kg, and her height increased by only 3 cm.

During the time spent in captivity, Natasha Kampush repeatedly wanted to commit suicide. At the age of 14 she tried to suffocate herself with clothes, at the age of 15 she cut (or rather plucked) the veins with a sewing needle. At the age of 16, she wanted to poison herself with carbon monoxide, but at the last moment she was scared. When Natasha was 17 years old, Priklopil began to take her with him to the city. The girl never took the opportunity to claim that she was a victim of a kidnapping.

The investigation into the abduction of Natasha Kampush was conducted reluctantly and carelessly, which was the reason for convening a commission to investigate possible police failures.

According to Brigitte Sirney, who never got her daughter home on March 2, 1998, the police gave an orientation to the girl in the red jacket. In 4 days, the department received over 130 testimonies. Most helpful was the message from a 12-year-old girl who saw Natasha being pushed into a white pickup with tinted windows. At first, they did not believe the testimony, but in the absence of other evidence they decided to trust the young witness.

The police examined 776 pickups, including Priklopil's car. This happened on the 35th day of Natasha's abduction. The man said that he was at home on March 2. The alibi was flimsy, but law enforcement did not dig deeper.

On April 14, 1998, the police received a call.
