Parents Vyacheslav Ignatievich and Anna Ivanovna worked at the Ivan Franko Academic Theater and received the title of People's Artist of Ukraine. Naturally, in such a family, Natasha and her younger sister Olga Sumskaya from an early age became addicted to the stage art and imitated their elders, acting out scenes from the classical works of N.V. Gogol and T.G. Shevchenko.

Since the acting life was associated with constant tours, the girls attended a “round-the-week” kindergarten, which instilled in the skills of communication with peers and staying in a large diverse team. Natalia well remembered the attempt to play the boy-guide in the play "The Slave", which was staged by the Lviv Theater named after Maria Zankovetskaya. Then a 6-year-old girl could not cope with emotions at the sight of a parent made up like a blind kobzar and, bursting into tears of fear and pity, flatly refused to participate in the play.

Much more successful was the recording of a radio play based on the work of Chingiz Aitmatov "My Poplar in a Red Headscarf", for which Sumskaya received praise from her mother and a salary sufficient to buy a winter fur coat made of faux fur. After that, the girl firmly decided to follow in the footsteps of her parents and after graduation she entered the theater institute in Kiev on the course of the famous actor Anatoly Grigorievich Reshetnikov.

In 1977, Sumskaya entered the service at the Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theater and at first was a stunt double for actresses who regularly appeared on stage during the season.

Having enough free time, Natalia tried her hand at cinema and unexpectedly became the main character of the film "Natalka Poltavka". The dark-haired beauty with a height of 175 cm and weighing about 70 kg managed to embody the image of a typical Ukrainian girl on the screen and win the respect of the audience and directors. Dad and mom also approved the debut of their daughter, who organically fit into the team of popular Ukrainian actors.

Sumskaya's next work was the role of the fisherwoman Khristina in the film "Dudariki", which tells about the adventures of a charming and vociferous shepherd, played by actor Yaroslav Gavrilyuk. The girl again managed to fill the image of the heroine with the national Ukrainian flavor, appreciated by the jury of the Kiev International Film Festival "Molodist" in 1980.

Then there were episodes in several more films of the Alexander Dovzhenko Film Studio, which made the aspiring actress recognizable and in demand.

In 1981, the girl finally got roles in the theater and for several seasons she participated in the plays "My profession is a senior from high society", "Region", "Tribunal" and "Choice". Until now, Natalya believes that the popularity acquired in her youth has become a key moment in her creative biography, which has been successfully continuing for several decades.

The actress was fortunate enough to work with famous directors and create female characters in such films and TV series as "State Border", "Mountains Are Smoke", "Shot in a Coffin" and many others.

On the stage, Natalya preferred classical roles and enjoyed playing the heroines in "The Night Before Christmas" by N. V. Gogol, "Three Sisters" by A. P. Chekhov, "The Master and Margarita" by M. A. Bulgakov and "Pygmalione" by J. B. Shaw. The main criteria in choosing a job for an actress were and remain the professionalism and ambitions of the directors and the friendly atmosphere in the creative team.

Based on this, Sumskaya agreed to a role in the series "Servant of the People", invented by Vladimir Zelensky and "Studio Quarter 95". In 2015-2017, for 2 seasons, she played the role of the mother of President Vasily Goloborodko Maria Stefanovna. This humorous project became a cult brand of Ukraine and was successfully broadcast on the national channel "1 + 1".

In between filming, the actress continued to work in the theater and brilliantly played the role of landowner Raisa Pavlovna Gurmyzhskaya in the play by A. N. Ostrovsky "Forest" and the singer Florence Foster Jenkins in the work of Peter Kuilter "Incomparable". The last image of an American lady without hearing and voice was especially difficult for Natalia, who studied music and has excellent vocal skills.

The first husband of Natalia Sumskaya was the cameraman Igor Mamai, who shot the films "At the Call of the Heart" and "Have Mercy and Forgiveness".
