In 1982, Natalia and Andrei won the USSR Championship and received the main prize of the Moscow News newspaper. The next year was no less successful for the couple - the guys won their first European Championship.

In 1984, Sarajevo hosted the XIV Winter Olympic Games, Bestemyanova and Bukin took 2nd place, losing only to athletes from Great Britain.
