Biography
Daughter of a police lieutenant, Nancy Allen is a shy girl who, pushed by her mother, plans to become a dancer, but it is ultimately towards comedy that she chooses to turn. After appearing in several commercials, she found her first role in The Last Chore in 1974, an iconic New Hollywood film directed by Hal Ashby and starring Jack Nicholson. In 1975, her career gained momentum when she was chosen to play the high school plague that angered Carrie's final wrath in Brian De Palma's Carrie at the Devil's Ball, her future husband.
Building on this success, Nancy Allen continued with two films by two future great directors: Crazy Day by Robert Zemeckis and 1941 by Steven Spielberg. Brian De Palma then turns her in Home Movies (1979), but especially Pulsions (1980) quickly followed by Blow Out (1981), two cult films in which the actress has an important role. A fan of science fiction films, the actress is also in the cast of The Invaders Are Among Us (1983) and The Philadelphia Experiment (1984).
In 1987, Nancy Allen slips into the skin of the main female character of Robocop, that of the officer and teammate of Alex Murphy Anne Lewis (role she takes up in the second and third parts of the famous robotic saga). If this cult science fiction film by Paul Verhoeven is a great success, the actress's career is on the decline, as evidenced by her numerous appearances in unambitious films, such as Not for Publication, Sweet Revenge or Poltergeist III.
From the 1990s, Nancy Allen sharply slows down her film career. She is all the same on the poster of the French spy film Les Patriotes (1994) in the role of Richard Masur's wife, in the friendly thriller Hors d'Ateinte (1998) by Steven Soderbergh, in the comedy Y a- there a godfather to save the mafia? (1999) and the horror film "The Demons of the Corn 6" (id.).
In 2008, the 58-year-old actress put an end to her career after having filmed in an episode of Elite Division, another of New York - Special Unit as well as in the little-known science fiction film "Quality Time" to be dedicate to the fight against cancer through the organization weSPARK Cancer Support Center of which she is the director.
