The athlete of power sports was born on December 17, 1978. It happened in Chelyabinsk in the family of Viktor Vasilyevich Koklyaev and Galiya Safiullina. Michael became the first of two sons.

The boy graduated from the first grade at school number 140, and the rest - at school number 29. The reason for this was the family's move to another part of the city. At the age of 13, Mikhail first appeared in the weightlifting section and fell in love with this sport. On October 22, 2009, while driving a Toyota while intoxicated, Koklyaev hit a 40-year-old man, fled the scene of the accident and did not contact his friends and the press. In 2010, he returned to the public to appear at the international tournament in power extreme, the festival of physical education and health for children and in the next Arnold Classic tournament.
