Biography
Mike Colter grew up in St Matthews, South Carolina. From the age of 8, little Mike has been passionate about comedy since he saw Norman Jewison's film A Soldiers Story. He studied at County High School where he founded a theater club and then at the University of South Carolina. Mike graduated in theater in 1999. He then joined Ruthers University Mason Gross School of the Arts in New Jersey.
After his studies, Mike debuted in television in small roles for Emergencies and The Parkers. Hollywood then opened its arms wide to him in 2004. Colter indeed landed the role of boxer Big Willie Little in Clint Eastwood's masterpiece, Million Dollar Baby. The actor therefore goes very quickly from shadow to light thanks to this very physical role for which he had to take a lot of muscles.
The actor then shines again on the small screen by appearing in New York Criminal Section, New York Special Unit or Blue Bloods but is noticed in 2012 in the role of Malcolm Ward alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar in Ringer. The series tells the story of Bridget, a lost young woman who impersonates her missing twin sister. The series is unfortunately canceled after one season.
Hollywood does not forget this big fellow and does not fail to make him play the roles of big arms or hardened soldiers as in Salt where he plays a CIA agent, in Men in Black 3 where he puts on the costume of a colonel and in Zero Dark Thirty in which he is part of DEVGRU, the special unit in charge of tracking down and assassination of Bin Laden.
In parallel, Colter shines since 2010 in the judicial series The Good Wife in which he plays the recurring role of drug lord Lemond Bishop. Subscribed to this kind of roles of tough guys, criminals, government agents or soldiers, he continues to haunt the small screen of his stature in Following, American Horror Story season 3, Criminal Minds or Halo: Nightfall, the series taken from the video game to success.
In 2015, Mike Colter's career took a decisive turn. He is indeed chosen to slip into the shoes of Marvel superhero Luke Cage in the new Netflix productions Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. This superhumanly strong superhero gained his powers after an experience gone awry.
