Biography
Until 2007, goalscorer Michel Platini was known as the top scorer in the number of goals scored for France, the winner of three Golden Balls and, according to the Federation of Football Statistics, one of the top ten players of the past century. After finishing his career, he briefly worked as a coach, and then joined the activities of organizing committees of football competitions.
In 2007, according to the statistics of goals scored, he was overtaken by Thierry Henry, and Platini himself won the election for the presidency of UEFA and was subsequently re-elected twice. Shortly after his third victory, he found himself at the center of a corruption scandal that stripped him of his leadership position.
In May 2018, the investigation into the activities of the functionary decided to stop for lack of evidence, the charges were dropped. French President Emmanuel Macron expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the situation. Platini himself said he would get the accusations to be slandered.
fact
Childhood and adolescence
The future UEFA president was born in 1955 in the commune of Jof, located in the French region of Lorraine. His date of birth is June 21. His grandparents lived in Italy, both paternal and maternal, but moved to France after World War I. Platini is French, not Italian.
The family has always loved football. Michel's father Aldo Platini played in amateur teams and later became the director of the Nancy club, from which his son's professional career began. Michelle started with the team of his hometown. The boy started playing for "Jef" at the age of 11.
Having failed to perform in the final of regional youth competitions at the age of 14, two years later the young athlete made up for lost time. In 1972, a local tournament victory over the Mets attracted the attention of the club's selectors. Shortly before that, the Maroons were left out of the top ten of Ligue 1 for the first time in many years and recruited promising players to regain their former positions.
However, both attempts of Michel to get into the composition of childhood idols ended in failure. The young man missed the first viewing due to injury, and on the second he fainted during the spirometra test.
Metz medical services rejected the candidate because of breathing problems and a weak heart, and an upset Platini had no choice but to take advantage of his father's offer. Aldo spoke to his colleagues, and in the summer of 1972, Michel joined Nancy as a reservist.

Football
No one was in a hurry to bring the newcomer to the field: match after match 17-year-old Michel was on the bench. But i fully laid out in training. When everyone dispersed, took out an artificial wall, which the coaches of "Nancy" began to use among the first in France, and time after time tried from a distance of 7 meters to throw the ball over it.
It remained unclaimed for almost a year. It was only in May 1973 that he was lucky. Replacing the injured forward, Michel made his debut for the strongest club Lorraine in the match against Nimes. And in the next match against Lyon he scored the first double for Nancy, bringing the score to a crushing 4:1. Both opponents and teammates were impressed by the accuracy with which the rookie played free kicks and penalties.
In his second season, the scorer played 21 games for Nancy. In the years that followed, that figure did not fall below 31 games in the season before Platini left the team. Thanks to the midfielder, the club, who was relegated to the second division, was able to return to Ligue 1 in just one year, where in 1976 he was in the top five.
In March of the same year, the footballer played for the national team for the first time. The debut, which took place against the Czechoslovakia team, was remembered by the fans of the game: when drawing a free-kick Michel scored a goal for the opponent, throwing the ball over the "wall" exactly as he had been training since the first days at Nancy.
Four months later, the midfielder in the national team went to the Olympic Games, where the French reached the quarterfinals. That year, Platini was named Footballer of the Year.
In 1979, the athlete moved to one of the strongest French clubs of the time - Saint-Etienne for three years. With the participation of the talented midfielder who complemented the line of attack Johnny Rep and Dominique Rochto, two years later the Greens won a record tenth victory in the French championship. At the end of his contract, Platini took advantage of The Juventus invitation, although Barcelona, Inter milan and Arsenal competed for him.
Prior to his debut for the Italian club, the midfielder played with the French national team at the 1982 World Cup. The semi-final, which was reached by the team with Michel' participation, turned into one of the most memorable games of the uniform.
The draw in the main time, which was secured by Platini's goal from the French side, was supplemented by four more goals in the extra half - two from each team. The player also scored on penalties.
But the French goalkeeper managed to hit one ball, and his colleague from Germany - two. France, having lost in such a grand match, put on the game for 3rd place with the Poles reserve line-up and remained outside the top three.
At Juventus, Platini's career flourished and his position on the pitch has changed somewhat. From the first season the player has earned the title of top scorer not only of the team, but also of the entire A-Series.
In addition, during the same period the player has to receive three "Golden Balls" in a row (1983-1985). Together with the Bianconeri, the athlete has twice won the national championship, the Cup of the country, the Cup Cup and a number of other prestigious trophies.
The top of the player's performances was participation in the home European Championship in 1984. As captain of the national team, Platini personally led France to victory: in five games he scored 9 goals. He was recognized as the best player of the tournament, and the national team received gold medals, beating the Spaniards in the final. He was awarded the Legion d'Honneur for his contribution to the development of French football.
At the 32th year the famous midfielder hung up his boots on the nail, but a year later returned to football: already as a coach. Under his leadership, the French national team prepared and competed at the 1992 European Championships. After the team left the tournament at the quarterfinal stage, Platini resigned as coach.
The athlete decided to retrain as a functionary. In 1998, he was promoted to the organizing committee of the 1998 World Cup and later served on the executive committees of FIFA and UEFA. He was first elected president of the Union of European Football Associations in 2007. He was re-elected twice.
In the summer of 2015, he announced his intention to run for the FIFA presidency, but was disqualified two months later. He was suspended by FIFA's ethics committee.
Platini's name appeared in reports of a corruption scandal involving the transfer of bribes from representatives of countries wishing to hold a uniform. The investigation suspected Platini after it was discovered that he had received a transfer of 2 million Swiss francs. Initially, the official was suspended from office for eight years. In the future, the term was reduced.
