Guitarist Jim Ruth and DJ Sid Wilson came to replace the departed artists, but Mick has remained part of the band since moving from Body Pit.

In 1999, slipknot' debut album of the same name was released. It hit the charts in the UK, Finland and Australia, which inspired the musicians to continue to create. In an interview with Revolver magazine, Thomson admitted that the process of working on the record was difficult. Participants lacked money, were irritated by each other's bad habits and behavior, which caused conflicts. But the result exceeded expectations.

After a concert tour and a short break came a new release of the band in the genre of metal. The album Iowa conquered the music charts and peaked at number one in the UK. In addition to working with The Slipknot, Thomson has collaborated with other artists as a guest musician during his creative biography. He was featured on The Death of James Murphy and Deathtrip 69 by Necrophagia, and was featured in Lupara's music video for No Pity on the Ants.
