Maya first appeared on the ice at the age of eight. Most of the famous figure skaters, championship holders, started their sports careers at a younger age. But Maya was able to. In 2006, the “Dancing on Ice” project was launched on the Rossiya channel. According to the contract, the partner was supposed to be a non-professional not older than 45 years. However, Usova had to go out on the ice with 58-year-old Ivar Kalninsh. At that time, the actor was filming in Riga. For the sake of training, the skater flew to the Latvian capital.

Usova unexpectedly found out that Kalninsh was no longer taking part in the project. The actor did not warn: he did not write and did not call. Usova, brought up in a sports-team spirit, was offended by such an act.

Once Vladimir Molchanov invited a figure skater to his program. The journalist inquired about the peculiarities of the ice show. Usova dreamed of a child. After breaking up with Zhulin, she met a wealthy married American. An affair began. Maya became pregnant and was already preparing to become a single mother. However, a miscarriage occurred in the second month. The athlete never got to know the joy of motherhood.

In 2005, Usova received an invitation from Moscow. In the Russian capital, they were preparing for the World Cup and decided to involve former athletes. Usova initially did not want to go to Moscow. In the United States, she has a cozy home that she didn't want to leave. In addition, Maya in the States trained young children and enjoyed her work. By the way, once the skater admitted that if not for sports, she would become a teacher.

Her mother persuaded her to go to Moscow. The former athlete at that time was tormented by inexplicable pain. Inexplicable, because in 20 years of being on the ice, Usova did not receive any injuries. Nevertheless, she went to Moscow, where she met her future husband, surgeon Anatoly Orletsky. The skater asked him for a consultation. Orletsky worked in sports for many years, but Usova, oddly enough, never met him.

The former figure skater lives in Moscow, works in Odintsovo. From time to time flies to the USA. Maya Usova received a diploma of a technical specialist, but claims that if it were not for her husband, she would not have worked at ISU. And I would not live in Russia, but in the United States.
