The divorce from Ilya pushed Maria to write two novels - "The Year of the Black Moon" in Russian and A World Elsewhere (in English) and a collection of stories "The Tablets of the Covenant and all the vanity of vanities." The prose writer won second place in the Unicorn and Lion competition for her translation of Nicholas Drayson's Book of the Birds of East Africa.
