After leaving school, the girl got into the junior team, and had to make a choice between skiing and everything else. It was only in the twenty-year-old Marit that the coaches saw the prospects. In the interview, Marit emphasizes that she achieved success thanks to talent and physical data: she was the strongest in the group, trained mostly with guys, not with girls. 

At first, the coaches did not have physical problems, but power, equipment and explosive qualities. In addition, the skier worked mainly in the "classic" and skate course was not given to her.

The breakthrough came thanks to coach Svein Toure Samdal and Norway team-mates Bente Scari, who generously shared their secrets. When serious results came, a good support team, the best skis, competent organization of training and trips were added to the abilities. The combination of these conditions has not slowed to affect the results.

Marit's first performance at international competitions took place in 1999, at the World Cup of Ski Racing. It was the era of Bente Scari. Bjorgen competed in the 2002-2003 season. In total, Marit has more than eighty World Cup victories, not counting silver and bronze medals.

The athlete has also been rewarded with medals at the world championships on ski-rollers. The first World Championship in this sport was held in 2000 in Holland. From there, Bjorgen brought home four silver and one gold medals.

The Norwegian won her first Olympic medal - silver - in Salt Lake City. Marit won her first world championship medals in Italy in 2003: gold in the personal sprint and silver in the relay. At a similar championship in 2005, Bjorgen had a whole scattering of awards - three golds, silver and bronze.

Then the winning curve crept down. At the 2006 Olympics in Turin, the skier won only silver in the 10km race and two bronze medals at the World Championships. Miracle with the return occurred in 2011, when the athlete spilled a golden rain of medals at the World Championships, held in her homeland.

Shortly before that, Marit received official permission from the International Ski Federation and the World Anti-Doping Agency to use drugs containing salbutamol in treatment dosage. The explanation is banal - asthma of physical tension, a disease that "mowed" half of the Norwegian ski team. Bjorgen's "sworn" rival, Polish skier Justina Kowalczyk, was blunt: it was doping, and in Norway he was elevated to the rank of medicine with impunity.

Former coach of the Finnish national team Kari-Pekka Curo once saw photos of the Norwegian skier from the award ceremony of the best athletes of Norway. Then a woman in a sleeveless dress showed off impressive muscles. An experienced expert did not believe that what he saw was an innate characteristic. His assessment was unequivocal - it's not what God gave. This is a credit to the Norwegian sports doctor.

Marit claimed that she was diagnosed at the age of 18, at the Junior World Championships. But later the high intensity of training and competitive loads affected. So salbutamol is vital for her.

At the World Championships in March 2009, Marit was in the second ten, and in November-December won the sprint and the 10km race at the World Cup. The role of the "medicine" in the training process of the athlete was openly emphasized by the head coach and the national team doctor.

It is widely believed that the situation should not be expected to change, as key positions in the International Ski Federation, as well as in the International Biathlon Union, are occupied by representatives of the Scandinavian states. Still, Justina at the Vancouver Olympics openly stated that Bjorgen would not have achieved such results without the drugs prescribed to her.

Bjorgen, with icy calm ignoring the attacks, continued the victory procession, winning five medals at the World Championships in Val di Fiemma, Italy, of which four were gold. At the 2015 World Championships, she has two golds and a silver. The Finnish ski was also gold four times two years later.

Marit collected a solid portion of the awards at the Olympic competitions: three gold medals in Sochi and one silver medal in Canada. 

The Olympic season 2017-2018 also began triumphantly. In February 2017, Marit competed at the Norwegian Championships. The piggy bank of the skier was replenished with gold medals in skiathlon and in separate starts for 10 and 15 km. On a Catholic Christmas in 2015, the great skier gave birth to a special son, Marius. The term "special" in relation to the boy implies only positive aspects. It's about the baby's parents. Shortly before the Olympics in Korea, Marit said she wanted more children, but didn't wonder when. In the spring of 2018, the famous skier will first decide whether to continue her career, but the Games for her are definitely the last.
