Marina Anatolyevna Zhuravleva was born on July 8, 1963 in one of the maternity hospitals in Khabarovsk. Her father was a military man and her mother was a housekeeper. The girl from a young age was fond of singing and music. After the family moved to Voronezh, young Marina became a soloist of the ensemble of the city Palace of Pioneers. She has a degree in piano from a music school.

Returning to Voronezh, Zhuravleva entered the music school at the pop department. In addition to vocals, she mastered the flute. The artist did not finish her studies in Voronezh. Despite her young age, Zhuravleva got married and gave birth to a child, and then transferred to Moscow to finish her studies. In one of the interviews, Marina recalled that it was in the Moscow school that she was going to enter after school, but due to participation in the competition in Dnepropetrovsk she was late for the entrance exams.

In 1983 Marina left the Voronezh Philharmonic Society and the Silver Strings ensemble. After the competition of the pop departments of the USSR, she was noticed and invited to Moscow. The long-awaited move to the capital took place, and Zhuravleva began to work in the Sovremennik jazz orchestra, led by Anatoly Kroll. In 1986, Marina graduated from the Moscow Gnessin School of Music, and a year later she left the orchestra. The reason for this was the acquaintance with her future husband Sergei Sarychev. 

In 1988, Zhuravleva took part in the recording of soundtracks for the film "Prisoner of the If Castle" with Viktor Avilov in the title role, performed in concerts, wrote poetry for new musical compositions. Close collaboration with Sergei Sarychev led to the appearance of Marina's first solo album entitled "Kiss Me Only Once", which was released in 1989. A year later, another album "Scarlet Carnations" appeared, and in 1991 - a collection of songs "White Bird cherry". We can say that the hits written by Sarychev and performed by Zhuravleva are their common children, born in the marriage of two talented people.

After the release of the collection of songs "White bird cherry", the couple began to cooperate with the theater of Alla Pugacheva. After working for about a year under the patronage of the prima donna, the artists went on tour to the United States. Marina recalled in an interview that when she and Sergei flew away, they left the car at Sheremetyevo, as they were going to return soon.
