Biography

Alexandra Marinina is the “literary mother” of one of the most thoughtful and intelligent detectives - Nastya Kamenskaya. Her novels are distinguished from other detective writers by psychologism, an outside view, and the absence of ideal heroes. In Marinina's books, catching a criminal is not the main goal: the reader is immersed in relationships and interconnections between people. Alexandra Marinina's works have been translated into 28 languages in 40 countries of the world.

Childhood and youth

Alexandra Marinina is a creative pseudonym with which the writer signed the first published work. Marina Anatolyevna Alekseeva was born in Lvov in June 1957. The biography of the queen of detectives is closely connected with service in the law enforcement agencies: there was also a grandfather, her father was an employee of the criminal investigation department, specialized in solving apartment and museum thefts, my mother taught legal disciplines. Marina's childhood passed in Leningrad, then her father was transferred to work in the Moscow police department.

In addition to an English special school, the girl graduated from a music school, dreamed of becoming a film critic, but the legal environment played a role: in 1979, Marina graduated from the law faculty of Moscow State University. By assignment, she worked at the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and rose from a laboratory assistant to a senior researcher, defended her Ph.D. thesis.

From 1994 to 1998, Marinina worked at the Moscow Law Institute (now a university) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia as deputy head and editor-in-chief. She retired in 1998. Marinina rose to the rank of police lieutenant colonel, but not “in the fields”, but doing criminology, forecasting and analysis, studying the personality of criminals.

Literature

Alexandra Marinina is the first Russian writer to earn $ 1 million in literary work. Marinina, by her own admission, began to write in 1991, while on vacation. The story "Six-Winged Seraphim" was published in the "Police" magazine, published by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. In the novel "Concatenation of Circumstances", the police lieutenant colonel outlined her vision of the law enforcement system and ways of further development.

The next work - "The Stolen Dream" - the magazine refused to publish, referring to the fact that the volume was exceeded. But, fortunately, a copy of the magazine with Alexandra's previous creations fell into the hands of the editor of a large publishing house. And then the publishing house suggested that Marinina publish her works in the form of books. Alexandra's former boss was retrained as her literary agent, and at his suggestion, the writer started her own website on the Internet.

In her works, Alexandra does not describe cases from practice, does not use specific official information, and she is flattered when colleagues, judges or prosecutors note the accuracy and professionalism of the characters' actions. Only the Illusion of Sin detective is based on a real story read in the newspaper. But the same Kamenskaya is 90% the embodiment of the author.

The heroine of most of Marinina's novels fell in love with millions of readers; People's Artist of Russia Elena Yakovleva portrayed her on the TV screen. For the first time Kamenskaya appeared in "Concatenation of Circumstances". Then there were filmed "Reluctant Killer", "Black List", "Do not interfere with the executioner", "Requiem". The series was replenished with several novels and corresponding TV films a year. The text "Reluctant Killers" is used in the scientific research of philologists on the subject of the peculiarities of modern Russian prose. For the detective story "Death for the sake of death" about the mysterious murders at the Research Institute, Marinina was awarded the Prize of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

In the early 2000s, stories with Kamenskaya appeared less often (according to the author, she became bored), a new hero appeared - the district police officer Doroshin, a new series of books - "Crimes of the Right Life". As part of the new cycle, the novels "The Feeling of Ice" and "Everything is Wrong" were published, the first of which was included in the long list of the national literary prize "Big Book". By the way, because of the book "Replacing the Object", Marinina had a conflict with the Department of Internal Affairs for the city of Moscow, as it saw in the actions of the main character Doroshin justification of official violations.

Sense of Ice is a story about two brothers trying to shield each other from murder. Critics noted that with this novel, Marinina tried not only to talk about the murder, but also to express her personal position on stereotypes of thinking.

In 2009-2010, Marinina published the series "A View from Eternity", which includes three novels and differs from traditional crime stories. The final part of the trilogy - "Inferno" - received the first national prize in the field of electronic books "Electronic Letter" as the best prose work.

Dilogy "Personal Motives" was awarded the second prize "Electronic Letter" as the best detective and bestseller of 2011, and Alexandra Marinina was recognized as the best author in terms of sales.

In the novel Life After Life, Alexandra sent Lieutenant Colonel Kamenskaya to retire. As the writer herself said, this novel is not so much about the new business of a detective - a pensioner, but about how a person in adulthood, who has gained relative freedom from official routine, can find himself at a new stage in life.

In 2012, the off-cycle detective story "Tiger Fight in the Valley" became a bestseller. A year later, a separate novel "The Last Dawn" was published, according to the readers' reviews - an elegant combination of intrigue and philosophical reflections. The operative Anton Stashis reappeared in the book.

In 2014, after a break of several years, the writer returned to the story of Kamenskaya in the detective stories "Angels on Ice Do not Survive" and "Execution without Malice." The heroine of the novels has already retired and works as a private investigator.

The three-volume Reverse Force, published in 2016, covers several generations of the same family. The psychological saga caused mixed reviews: they got used to expecting a detective from Marinina, but this time the readers received reflections on the values of life, a description of history, family showdowns. Some readers accused Alexandra of being unpatriotic and impersonal in her characters. Although the writer herself believes that she made an attempt to move away from the detective genre back in 2001, when she wrote the family saga "He Who Knows."

Few people know that, apart from detective stories and family sagas, Alexandra Marinina wrote two plays - "Well, guys, you got it" and "Abandoned doll with severed legs." The writer herself is not delighted with these works, since she does not possess the skill of writing theatrical plays.

He married Alexandra only when his son was 18 years old. Two St. Bernards and a Persian cat live at Marina's house. The couple did not have joint children.
