The name of the group Linkin Park is familiar even to those who know nothing about American rock music. Their albums were certified gold and platinum, and each record was an experiment with new genres and styles. The record companies reacted to the new demos with unexpected delight. Soon the group, which took another name - Hybrid Theory, moved to Los Angeles. The "Golden Lineup" formed at that time remained unchanged until 2017: songwriters and vocalists Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda, drummer Rob Burdon, DJ Joseph Khan, guitarists Dave Farrell and Brad Delson.

In 1999, Warner Bros. Records offered the band to sign a contract. Then they created their debut album in the spirit of rap metal, the name of which coincided with the name of the band. The release of the first album turned into a triumph: copies continue to be sold to this day (the total circulation exceeded 30 million), and the song Crawlling brought the musicians the first Grammy award.

According to the soloist, it reflected his struggle with drugs and alcohol - then Chester Bennington was desperately trying to overcome addictions and expressed this in the song so sincerely that fans were moved.

After the release of the first album, the name had to be changed again, and urgently - at that time in Britain there was already a group called Hybrid. His musicians have accused "upstarts" with a similar name of plagiarism and threatened with legal proceedings. Chester suggested to his colleagues the name "Lincoln Park", but the group's plans were to create an Internet site, and the domain of the same name was already taken. I had to take a slightly modified version of Linkin Park.

The next album Meteora, released in 2003, did not yield to the first in popularity. The top lines of the MTV and Billboard ratings, active rotation on radio and TV, the delight of the audience at concerts proved that the success of the debut album was not accidental and the musicians are able to create truly original compositions.

Many creative people note that the release of the third work often becomes a crisis time: it is impossible to offer fans something fundamentally new, because they already liked the old style, but continuing in the old spirit will also cause accusations of repetition and obsession. Linkin Park has not spared these problems either.

Their next album, Minutes to Midnight, surprised fans by unexpectedly deviating from their signature hybrid style towards alternative rock. Most of the fans approved of the experiment's results. This time, the group's compositions not only topped the charts, but also sounded as soundtracks in "Terminator", "Transformers", "Twilight", "Need for Speed".

In 2009, a single was released with the song New Divide, which was later named the best in the history of the band. In subsequent albums, the musicians continued to experiment: Thousand Suns acquired a melancholic electronic sound, Living Things switched to personal themes and absorbed elements of folk and country music, and The Hunting Party heralded a return to the early style of the group with its long guitar solos, notes of new -metal and rap elements.

Despite the bright stage image, in life the Linkin Park musicians behaved calmly and adequately - they did not demand to serve alcohol backstage, did not organize violent parties and after each concert paid attention to their fans by signing autographs. In 2002, the group held a separate concert only for teenagers 11-15 years old. They took only $ 8 for a ticket, and the proceeds were donated to charity.

The group's logo is known all over the world. During its existence, it has changed 20 times, but the main idea remains the same: the first letters of the words from the name are arranged in the form of a triangle and encircled by a circle. On July 20, 2017, the group members and fans were shocked by the news of Chester Bennington's suicide. Two months earlier, his friend Chris Cornell of Soundgarden had hanged himself. Chester was very upset about what had happened, but no one knew that he, too, would soon voluntarily die in the same way. Bennington did not leave any note. The musician was only 41 years old, he left a wife and six children.

The news shocked friends in the group as much as the fans. According to them, nothing boded trouble: on that day they were going to a photo session, and a week later they planned to leave for the next tour.

In late summer 2017, Linkin Park announced that he wanted to host a concert in honor of the deceased soloist. The hits of the group were sung by Blink-182, Bring Me the Horizon, Kiiara and other performers popular on the American stage.

Linkin Park subsequently released an archived video and live album with recordings dating back to Bennington's time. The records became the last gift in the musician's biography that he left to fans.
