Klara Luchko

Clara Stepanovna Luchko was born in Ukraine, in the small village of Chutovo, in the Poltava region. The parents of the actress are peasants. Both father and mother worked as directors of state farms in neighboring villages. An example for the girl was her mother - an intelligent, strong-willed, full of energy woman. In addition, Anna Ivanovna sang remarkably and was an artist of the traveling theater. In her youth, she even sang in church with the legendary Ivan Kozlovsky.

Apparently, my mother's passion for the theater was passed on to Clara: she dreamed of becoming an actress from a young age. Parents did not approve of the choice of their daughter - they dreamed of seeing her in the future as a lawyer or doctor.

In childhood and adolescence, Klara Luchko looked like an awkward tall teenager, for which her peers teased her "Giraffe". When the girl was in middle school, the family moved to live in Poltava, where she met the war. Klara had to finish her tenth year in Kazakhstan, in the Dzhambul secondary school: the family was evacuated there during the war.

When Klara Luchko was finishing school, she accidentally came across a newspaper advertisement that the capital's VGIK, evacuated to Alma-Ata, was recruiting first-year students. And the girl, not wasting a minute on reflection, got ready to go to Alma-Ata. Mom, who used to be categorically against the acting profession, seeing her daughter's determination, no longer obstructed her. But Klara Luchko could not wait for the blessing of her father, since dad was at the front at that time. 

The girl entered on the first try and was enrolled in the workshop of the legendary Sergei Gerasimov and Tamara Makarova. The smiling student was the favorite of Tamara Fedorovna, and she called her "petunia" for her stamina and "punchy" strength, which did not allow her to break under the blows of fate.

In the late 50s, Klara Luchko graduated from VGIK and continued to build a film career, which began at the institute. In the diploma of the young artist there was a recommendation for future directors: "Turgenev's young lady".

Many fell in love with a smiling, stately beauty with radiant eyes, but in her life she managed to sincerely love only two men.

The first husband of Clara Luchko was the famous actor Sergei Lukyanov. The artist met him when she was filming "Kuban Cossacks". Lukyanov, as you know, played in the film Gordey Gordeevich Voron. In fact, the young beauty Luchko took Lukyanov away from the family, where then his 10-year-old daughter, mother of actress Daria Poverennova, was growing up. They say that when he saw Klara, Lukyanov exclaimed: "I'm lost!"

A few months after the end of filming, the couple legalized their relationship, and soon their common daughter Oksana was born. The couple lived happily and amicably together for fifteen cloudless years. But in March 1965, Sergei Lukyanov died: he suddenly died of a heart attack that happened when he spoke at a meeting at the Yevgeny Vakhtangov Theater.

Clara Luchko met her second husband 4 years after Lukyanov's death. A chance acquaintance with Dmitry Mamleev, a young and promising journalist for Izvestia, soon grew into true love. Luchko and Mamleev lived happily for 36 years. The death of his beloved wife Dmitry Fyodorovich was very upset and died seven years after her departure.

It is noteworthy that until the very last day of her life, the star retained an excellent appearance and a beautiful figure. Clara Luchko did not visit gyms, expensive masseurs and cosmetologists: she did all the housework on her own, she loved to cook, clean the house, dig in the ground at her summer cottage. She never complained of health and had a blooming complexion.

The movie star had a huge collection of hats that were surprisingly good for her, giving her a certain aristocracy. Once the love for hats to Clara Luchko was instilled by Lyubov Orlova herself, who knew how to construct amazing hats with her own hands from improvised material.

Clara Luchko's daughter Oksana Lukyanova graduated from two theater universities - VGIK and GITIS, but did not follow in the footsteps of her parents - she became a journalist. She got married, gave birth to a son, Sasha, and lived in Canada for some time. But Oksana's personal life did not work out, and she, together with her son and grandson Klara Luchko Alexander, returned to their homeland.

The cinematic biography of Clara Luchko started in the fourth year of VGIK. In the film Three Meetings, the aspiring actress played the geologist Bela Mukhtarova. The young artist coped with this first serious work remarkably.

The next role of Klara Luchko is Ulyana Gromova in the graduation performance "Young Guard". In the heroic image of Ulyana, Klara reincarnated so well that she received the highest score from Sergei Gerasimov himself. After the production, the well-known director immediately began to shoot a film based on the novel by Alexander Fadeev. Of course, Klara Luchko was sure that she would get the role of Ulyana in the film. But then the first and very bitter disappointment befell her: instead of Luchko, it fell to Nonna Mordyukova to play Gromov. And Klara got the inconspicuous role of the aunt. They say that the artist was so offended by Gerasimov that she almost left the profession.

After the "Young Guard", in which Klara Luchko was almost not noticed in the form of an aunt, followed by another not very successful - "The Motherland of the Captain." The young actress was so disappointed that she almost left the cinema. 

Fortunately, during this difficult period, the famous director Ivan Pyriev invited the actress to his picture. The role of Dasha Shelest in the film "Kuban Cossacks" helped Klara to perk up and not leave the profession. Moreover, the picture after the release of the screens made Luchko the most famous artist of the Soviet Union. For this work, she received the Stalin Prize.

After this legendary film in the filmography of Klara Luchko, many films appeared, which not only entered the "golden fund" of national cinematography, but also elevated the young artist to the rank of movie stars of the first magnitude. The most famous of them are "Donetsk Miners", "The Return of Vasily Bortnikov", "Big Family", "On the Seven Winds", "State Criminal" and "Twelfth Night".

The last film is a full-length feature film by Ian Fried, directed by the famous director based on the play by William Shakespeare. Clara Luchko played the role of Viola in the film. "Twelfth Night" was released in November 1955 and made a splash, becoming the leader of the box office. The comedy, in which the leading roles went to Klara Luchko, Alla Larionova and Vadim Medvedev, was watched by almost 30 million viewers.

Clara Luchko, already well-known after the hit Kuban Cossacks, literally bathed in public love and glory. It is not surprising that Luchko was recruited into the Soviet delegation of filmmakers in Cannes. It is noteworthy that the young actress went to the famous Cannes Film Festival together with Lyubov Orlova, the legend of Soviet cinema. Even then, the Western public noticed that the two stars are similar to each other, like mother and daughter.

But in the mid-1960s, a difficult period began in the personal and creative life of the actress. Clara Stepanovna's husband suddenly died, there was timelessness in his film career. The famous artist did not like the proposed roles, but she agreed to everything, just not to “stand by” and not lose her skills.

Clara Luchko survived this black stripe with dignity and waited for a white one: in the last two decades of her life, the actress played her best roles. The experience affected the game of Klara Stepanovna. Now the images she embodies have become deeper, psychologically filled and multidimensional. This is a completely different, mature and experienced artist. If we compare Klara Luchko in her first films and films of recent years "Guardian", "We, the undersigned", "Carnival", "Casket of Maria Medici" and "Anxiety Sunday", you can easily see this.

But the main picture of the last, and possibly all, years of Clara Luchko's life can be considered the multi-part melodrama "The Gypsy": its release on the screens was accompanied by a resounding success. So soon there was a no less successful sequel called "The Return of Budulai". The main characters of the film, Klara Luchko and Mihai Volontir, received the title of People's Artists of the USSR.

But there was a role that Klara Luchko refused. This is the image of the seductive Anna Sergeevna from The Diamond Hand. The artist decided that she should not appear in such a frivolous capacity. And even after the resounding success of this golden comedy, she did not regret abandoning a seemingly such a winning role.

In the new century, Klara Luchko managed to star in only two films: in the military detective action movie by Rudolf Fruntov “Sunstroke” and the comedy by Yuli Gusman “Park of the Soviet period”. In the last tape, the movie star appeared only in the role of a cameo, and in Sunstroke she played one of the key roles - Clara Miller. The film was released in 2002.

Klara Luchko died suddenly: the woman preparing to celebrate her 80th birthday was full of strength and new creative plans. But on Saturday morning, March 26, 2005, the actress died. The cause of death was a detached blood clot.

Husband Dmitry Mamleev saw his wife lifeless in an apartment on Kotelnicheskaya embankment and immediately called an ambulance, but the doctors could only state the death, which happened instantly.

Thousands of her fans and hundreds of colleagues came to the star's funeral, who sincerely grieved for the talented actress and incredibly bright and kind person. A civil funeral service took place at the House of Cinema.

The star was buried at the Novodevichy cemetery: her grave is located on the 10th site next to the burial place of the famous surgeon Boris Petrovsky.
