Biography
Combining different cultures in creativity can create the perfect balance and uniqueness. It is thanks to the fusion of Eastern and Western heritage in his works that the Japanese writer Kazuo Ishiguro, who grew up in England, achieved popularity not only at home, but throughout the world. The author won the 2017 Nobel Prize for Merit in Literature.
Biography of Kazuo Ishiguro began in the Japanese city of Nagasaki on November 8, 1954. At the time, the country was in an economic crisis based on losing the Second World War. The boy's father, Shizuo, a promising oceanographer, decided to immigrate with his family to England.
When little Kazuo was 6 years old, he and his parents moved to the southern English city of Guildford with a population of 125 thousand people. Shizuo immediately found a job at the Institute of Oceanography, and his son enrolled in elementary school.
After receiving secondary education, the young Japanese took a leave of absence from studies and went on a trip around the world - he spent a year in America and Canada. At that time, Kazuo was fond of music and even released several compilations that did not achieve much success.
Returning to the UK, the guy successfully passed the entrance exams at the University of Kent, where he studied philosophy and English until 1978. Five years later, Ishiguro was promoted to British subject. Kazuo first flew to Japan only 30 years after emigration as a participant in a program to visit his native land.

Books
The first published works of the aspiring writer were short stories released in 1981. Two years later, he made his debut as a novelist with the book "Where the Hills Are in the Haze." For the work, which tells the story of a widow named Etsuko, who lives in England and suffers from memories of her daughter's suicide and the tragedy in Nagasaki, Kazuo received the award as the best aspiring British writer. The young author's debut work has been translated into 13 languages.
His next novel was titled "The Artist of the Shaky World" and was released in 1986. It dealt with modern Japanese and their attitude to the events of the Second World War. The main character, who is an ardent patriot, became disillusioned with the government and began to look for a new meaning in the surrounding reality. The work was announced the book of the year in Britain.
One of Ishiguro's most famous novels, The Remains of the Day, published in 1989, tells the story of an elderly English servant, James Stevens. The man recalls the 30s of the 20th century, when he worked for the successful diplomat Lord Darlington, who supported fascism. The butler, who indulges the owner all his life and agrees with any of his opinions, changes his attitude and tries to find a personal life, but he does it too late.
The adaptation of the novel was released 4 years later, with the talented Emma Thompson and Anthony Hopkins playing the main roles. The melodrama received 8 Oscar nominations and a number of other prestigious awards.
Differing from the previous ones in style, presentation and structure, the next book was published in 1995. "Inconsolable" is something between a collection of stories and a full-fledged work, which is why it is considered the most difficult in the writer's bibliography. Events unfold in an unnamed European country at the present time, while all past works have focused on the past.
Five years later, Kazuo released his next novel, When We Were Orphans. The book is set in the early 20th century in the Chinese city of Shanghai. The protagonist of the work is a private investigator investigating the mysterious disappearance of his own father and mother, which happened 20 years ago. In this work, the author is again inspired by the aesthetics of the past.
It takes 5 years to write Ishiguro's 6th novel again - in 2005, Don't Let Me Go, which won the Booker Prize and a place in the list of the 100 Best English Novels of All Time by the prestigious Time magazine.
The film of the same name starring Carey Mulligan, Andrew Garfield and Keira Knightley was released in 2010 and received positive reviews from critics and viewers. The fantasy drama was about clone children who were kept in a special boarding school with many rules for obtaining donor organs. They themselves did not know about their purpose, but one day it was time to get out of the walls of the institution to get acquainted with the world outside.
The seventh novel by Kazuo Ishiguro was released only in 2015 and was named "The Buried Giant". This time, the writer turned to the fantasy genre, and the inspiration was medieval England. The main characters of the book, the elderly spouses Axel and Beatrice, went in search of their son who disappeared several years ago and along the way faced incredible adventures full of dangers and mysteries. The situation is aggravated by a mysterious fog that makes you forget the last hour lived.
