Karen Black

Karen Black, born Karen Blanche Ziegler, was born in a Chicago suburb. Born into a Jewish family, she is the daughter of award-winning children's novelist Elsie Mary (née Reif) and Norman Arthur Ziegler. His paternal grandfather, Arthur Ziegler, was the first classical violinist to join the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Her sister, Gail Brown, is also an actress.

At fifteen, in 1954, Karen Black joined Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where she continued her studies for two years. She then moved to New York where she distinguished herself in several Off-Broadway productions, in addition to her wrestling activities. She took drama and comedy classes under the guidance of renowned Actors' Studio teacher Lee Strasberg.

It was in 1959 that Karen Black's career really started, with a small role she got in The Prime Time by Herschell Gordon Lewis. Unfortunately, the film did not meet the expected success and the actress returned to the theater for six years. In 1965, his performance in "The Playroom" on the boards of Broadway earned him critical acclaim. She also made a career in television, since in 1975, she took on several roles in a three-part horror film, Trilogy of Terror (TV). Black also collaborates with renowned directors, such as Robert Altman in Nashville in 1975, film of which she composed and performed two songs, which earned her a Grammy nomination. But one of her most famous roles remains that of the jewelry thief in Family Plot in 1976, Alfred Hitchcock's last film. She then continued to appear in rather ambitious films until the end of the 1970s, but her career declined with the crumbling of the constants defining New Hollywood cinema: less in demand, she decided to turn to lighter productions to continue her acting profession.

Since then, the actress has never ceased to practice, but the films in which she is illustrated do not enjoy great prestige, except Come Back Jimmy Dean, Come Back, in 1982, which obtained good reviews. Like the 1980s, the 1990s and 2000s were very dense in relation to the number of films in which it appeared, but success (commercial or critical) was still not forthcoming.

She nevertheless plays one of the central roles of The House of 1000 Dead in 2003, a horror film quite well received by fans of the genre and directed by the very promising Rob Zombie. In 2010, she can be seen in Some Guy Who Kills People, a thriller produced by John Landis (director of Beverly Hills Cop 3).
