As a child, Masvidal was an aggressive boy and often got involved in fights. His amateur fights got into the camera lens, and now they can be found on YouTube. One day, the older boys set up a "fight club" in the backyard of the school. They thought that 14-year-old Jorge would not stand against the main local bully, who turned 19 years old, but made a mistake.

The management of St. Brendan High School long tolerated Masvidal's addictions to street fights, but in the end the young man was expelled. Jorge devoted his free time to training.

Jorge Masvidal's professional career began on April 11, 2003, when the 19-year-old competed in the Fast and Fearless kickboxing tournament. In May of the same year, the fighter made his MMA debut. In April 2015, Masvidal met with Al Yakvinta. The fight is considered one of the most controversial in UFC history. The jury awarded the victory to Yakvinte, and 13 of the 15 key sports publications named Masvidal as the favorite. The fight against Cesar Ferreira in July of that year brought Gamebred the 1st performance of the evening.

Two defeats, from Benson Henderson and Laurence Larkyin, were followed by victories over Ross Pearson, Jake Ellenberger and Donald Cerrone. Before his last opponent, Masvidal almost surrendered in the final of the 1st round, but was able to tip an hour of weights in his favor and won the fight by TKO in the 2nd round. The 2017 defeats against Damian Maya and Stephen Thompson ended.
