This guy became a punk rock legend without leaving a decent musical legacy behind him. This is not surprising - he, by and large, did not know how to sing or play. But if you say "punk", at least in 2/3 of the cases you will remember Sid Vicious - the living personification of true punk, who has absorbed anarchy, violence and self-destruction.

In fact, Evil Sid (as the name of the punk sounds in English) was called John Simon Richie. A boy was born under the sign of Taurus - May 10, 1957. The biography of the newborn Londoner did not work out initially. Anne's mother was an unemployed hippie drug addict, and John's father, who worked as a security guard, left the family immediately after the birth of the son.

Anne, taking the baby, went to Ibiza, where she lived for four years. Then Richie returned to England, and little John had a stepfather - Christopher Beverly. At first the family lived in Kent, then in Sommerset, and after a while Christopher died.

After leaving school at the age of 15, under the name Simon John Beverly, the future Sid Vicious entered an art college to study photographic art.

There friend John Lydon and came up with a nickname, which is now known to the whole world. Lydon's hamster named Sid bit the future punk star on the hand, and he exclaimed: "Sid is really vicious!" ("Sid is really evil!").

In one interview, Sid stated that he should not study or work, he did not like the rules. At the age of 17, having quarreled with his mother, the guy became homeless and joined the squatters - people who arbitrarily settled in empty housing. Drunkenness and drugs (and Viches’s own mother taught drugs) were interspersed with drumming in rock bands. And punk, which was gaining momentum, became the second "me" for Sid.

Vicious met the musicians from the Sex Pistols at the SEX store. Glen Matlock, Steve Jones and Paul Cook played punk rock here in the evenings, and at the same time persuaded store owner Malcolm McLaren to become their producer. When the latter agreed, the Swankers got the name Sex Pistols.

There was no place for Vicious in the renewed group, although Vivienne Westwood, McLaren's wife, insisted that Syd become the vocalist. But the vocalist's place went to John Lydon, better known as Johnny Rotten, that is, Rotten.

Syd had the opportunity to play the lead singer for The Damned, but he lost it by ignoring the audition. And soon he was accepted into their ranks by The Flowers of Romance, and in the fall of 1976, at the first punk festival Vicious, he found himself at the epicenter of a new movement, he felt what it was like to stand above the crowd that raged, seeing you and your antics.

Syd joined the Sex Pistols in 1977, replacing Metlock as bass player. This was due to the shocking behavior and truly punk image, and not the talent of the musician. The people around thought, and quite rightly, that the bass player from Vicious was not there, although he tried very hard to learn how to play. At concerts, the bass guitar was muted or even completely turned off so that it did not dissonant with the others.

At the same time, Sid came up with a strange pogo dance, which became a vivid illustration of the punk image. Syd's first appearance on stage with the band took place on April 3, 1977 at the Screen on the Green club in London. A recording of the performance, made by Don Letts, was included in the Punk Rock Movie.

In fact, the Sex Pistols were McLaren's highly successful commercial projects, and Vicious, with his disgusting reputation, was a stepping stone to the pinnacle of success, a tool for making even more profit. Therefore, Vishes was forgiven for everything: the absence at rehearsals, and the eternal heroin intoxication.

A striking example is a concert in Memphis in 1978, which took place as part of a tour of the United States. The drunken Sid threw chairs at the rehearsal, cut his hand with a knife, and at the concert tore off the bandages, showed the audience a deep bloody wound and generally behaved like a patient who escaped from a mental hospital, and not like a person keen on music. However, what can I say, one has only to look at photos and clips from the band's concerts.

Skinny, with spoiled teeth, but attractive, Sid Vicious did not suffer from a lack of female attention. Despite all the violence, he did not know how to fight, and therefore often suffered in fights, including with famous rock musicians like David Coverdale.

Vicious loved to give interviews, pose for photographers. Working for the public led to the fact that it was Sid who became the personification of punk rock, although he does not have any sensational albums or world hits - only a few cover versions and only one song written personally.

Sid and Nancy - these two names have already become household names. According to the recollections of people close to Vishes, his girlfriend was a very unpleasant person. But for Sid, from the moment she met, Nancy Spungen became the only one. Except for their common "friend" - heroin.

Syd met Nancy almost immediately after starting a collaboration with the Sex Pistols. A heroin-addicted group, the girl had a goal - to sleep with the whole group. I started with Steve and John, then I got to Sid, and he suddenly lost his head. A little later, Vicious was treated for hepatitis C and became increasingly addicted to Nancy and heroin.

Rotten tried to follow his friend, the group broke up. In January 1978, the Sex Pistols ceased to exist. Syd and Nancy starred in The Great Rock and Roll Swindle, after which Syd went to odd jobs, and Nancy became a lover's producer and even organized several concerts in the States.

In the summer of 1978, Sid and Nancy went to New York, where they organized their own group "Vicious White Kids", which translated into Russian sounds like "Evil White Children". But when at the concert Vicious, while under heroin, lost consciousness, the musicians refused to perform with him.

In October of that year, Sid and Nancy rented room 100 at the Chelsea Hotel in New York. Then Vicious received money for recording several songs, and $ 25,000 was found in a drawer in a hotel room.

On October 11, local drug dealers received information that two guests from the "hundredth" will not stand up for the price, so a dose is needed. And on October 12, Sid, waking up, found his beloved Nancy dead. The girl, bloodied, with a knife sticking out of her belly, lay on the bathroom floor.

Vicious was arrested on suspicion of murder and sent to jail, although he said that he was high and did not remember the last night. Thanks to the work of Sid's lawyers, drug dealers came under suspicion, because $ 25 thousand disappeared. And the punk legend was released on bail, which was paid by McLaren.

Three months after the death of Nancy Vicious, he survived several suicide attempts, another arrest. On the evening of February 1, 1979, Syd took another dose of heroin and did not wake up the next morning. Vicious was usually content with a 5% heroin solution, and 80% heroin was found in the killer syringe. There is a version that the mother injected Sid with a lethal dose to save him from prison. So, having lived in the world for 21 years, a punk rock star has died out from an overdose.

On February 7, Sid was cremated, and soon his mother scattered his ashes over Nancy's grave. True, it was rumored that Anne Beverly dropped the urn with her son's ashes at Heathrow Airport.

Sid and Nancy's passion and death inspire creative people. They devote songs to the couple, Alan Parker wrote the book "Sid Vicious: Too Fast to Live ...". And director Alex Cox made Sid and Nancy in 1986, in which Vicious is played by Gary Oldman and Nancy Spungen is played by Chloe Webb.
