John Cusack

Coming from a family tour to the performing arts, John Cusack, the brother of actress and writer Joan Cusack, began his career at the age of eight years as an actor in theater and doubler for commercials advertising. In 1983, he landed his first film role playing the role of Roscoe in Lewis John Carlino's romantic comedy called Class. He then worked with several new directors, including Cameron Crowe (A World for Us, 1989) and Tim Robbins (Bob Roberts, 1992; Broadway 39th Street, 1999).


The historical tragedy The Masters of the Shadows (Roland Joffé, 1989) and especially the film noir Les Arnaqueurs (Stephen Frears, 1990) make his face familiar to the general public. John Cusack then sets up ambitious works under the direction of such prestigious directors as Woody Allen (Shadows and Fog, 1992; Shots on Broadway, 1994), Clint Eastwood (Midnight in the garden of good and evil, 1997), Robert Altman (The Player, 1992), Terrence Malick (La Ligne rouge, 1998) or even Spike Jonze (In the skin of John Malkovich, 1999).


In 1994, the actor became interested in writing by participating in the dialogues of Floundering. He is still evolving in the scriptwriting path with films such as Killers (1997) and High Fidelity (2001) of which he is also a producer. In fact, in 1997, Cusack began producing, notably with Grace Is Gone (2008), the American drama by James C. Strouse. Faithful to the genre with which he entered the cinema, John Cusack continued his acting career in romantic comedy by giving the answer to the greatest female stars of his generation: Julia Roberts (Star couple, 2001), Kate Beckinsale (Un amour à New York, 2002) or Diane Lane (La Main au collier, 2005).


Partner twice with Billy Bob Thornton in Les Aiguilleurs (2000) and Faux Amis (2006), he then alternated independent films imbued with a certain seriousness (Max, 2001; Grace is Gone, 2008) and Hollywood thrillers of invoice more classic (Identity, 2003; Le Maître du jeu, 2004; Le Contrat, 2007; and Chambre 1408, 2008), until 2009, when he was propelled to the headliner of Roland Emmerich's 2012 blockbuster. In 2010, he collaborated with Steve Pink as a producer and actor for his comedy The Time Machine, then took part, two years later, in two thrillers: he became the writer Edgar Allan Poe in search of a formidable serial killer (Shadow of Evil) and lends his features to a very violent inmate languishing on death row (Paperboy).


In 2013, John Cusack played Richard Nixon in Lee Daniels' critically acclaimed film The Butler. It is found the following year in the controversial Map to the Stars by David Cronenberg where he shares the poster with Julianne Moore and Robert Pattinson. In 2015, in Love and Mercy, the actor played Beach Boys singer Brian Wilson, during the 1980s. Along with these relatively ambitious projects, John Cusack took part in a multitude of Direct to DVD mainly oriented action / thriller like 48 heures chrono, Suspect, Grand Piano, Instinct to kill, Drive Hard, The Prince, Dragon Blade or Arsenal.
