Originally from Chicago to an immigrant father from Albania, John Belushi divides his adolescence between his passions for football, music (he is a drummer in a group) and his first comedy shows where he won the support of his classmates. . After having a first tour in Illinois, he joined an improvisation league and met Dan Ackroyd, also a comedic aspirant, with whom he formed a legendary duo. In 1975, he joined the Satuday Night Live team , as an actor but also a screenwriter. The success of the show brought him fame and attracted the attention of film producers. His first feature film is a supporting role in the western On the Road to the South directed by Jack Nicholson. His career was then ready to take off.

The public noticed him the same year with John Landis' American College in which he played John Blutarsky, a particularly party-loving student, a role not really of composition for the actor, accustomed in his own life to excesses of all kinds. The following year, he starred in the only comedy directed by Steven Spielberg: 1941, a box office failure. He then finds John Landis and his friend Dan Ackroyd in The Blues Brothers, adapted from cult characters from the SNL . This mix of comedy and musical film is a real hit and propels the actor to the rank of star.

With the poster of two films in 1981, he sees his promising career stopped by his untimely death, during a night of debauchery. The police found him lifeless at the Château Marmont on March 5, 1982, struck down by an overdose caused by a cocktail of alcohol and hard drugs. Dead at only 33 years old, John Belushi has never been forgotten by moviegoers and new generations are discovering his talent through his few films which remain classics of comedy. The film Wired was even dedicated to him in 1989, Michael Chicklis in the main role.
