Two months later, his son boasted two gold medals in the Summer Championship of Norway. Yossa, as the athlete's relatives call, then only turned 16 years old.

Johannes' first notable success was in 2010 at the Norwegian Junior Championships. Boe competed in the 18-year-old category, two years younger, and nevertheless won gold. At the championship of the next year, the 17-year-old participated in the adult individual race and came sixth, ahead of the eminent Rune Brattsween and Lars Helge Birkemann.
