Biography
A film student at Paris VIII, Jérome Bonnell was a finalist for the Junior Prize for best screenwriter with Le bonheur des uns, a feature film which will remain in the draft stage. He took his first steps as a director in 1999 with Fidèle, a short film which also marks the beginning of a long collaboration with the actress Nathalie Boutefeu.
After two other shorts, Jérôme Bonnell is working on his first feature film, Le Chignon d'Olga, also selected for the Junior Prize for Best Screenplay. Both a family chronicle, a portrait of a frozen lover and a story of friendship, this very mastered first work, awarded at the Chicago Festival, reveals in 2002 a filmmaker of great sensitivity. Just as delicate, Les Yeux clairs, his second opus, winner of the 2005 Jean-Vigo Prize, offers a golden role to his muse Nathalie Boutefeu, that of an unloved young woman with disconcerting behavior.
Jérôme Bonnelle directed in 2007 J'attends Someone, a mosaic film about solitude and hope. If he continues to dig his furrow, Bonnell this time directs big names in French cinema (Darroussin, Devos, Caravaca). He sets himself a new challenge by making a foray into the thriller with La Dame de trèfle (2010), a story of the fusional relationship between a brother and a sister, played by the newcomer Malik Zidi and the regular Florence Loiret-Caille. .
