Childhood and adolescence

Jason Michael Lee was born on April 25, 1970 in a small California town called Orange, the son of a car dealership manager Greg Lee and a housewife named Carol. During his years at Ocean View High School, the boy became interested in extreme sports and began to participate in teenage skateboarding competitions.

In the late 1980s, after performing a 360-degree flip jump, Jason entered the professional league of athletes and, along with his colleague Chris Pastras, nicknamed Dune, founded the stereo Sound board agency.

Even in his youth, outstanding stunts led the guy to the set of advertising skateboarding company Blind Skateboards and opened his way to a big movie. In 1992-1994, having played several minor roles, including the clip of the American rock band Sonic Youth "100%" and the dramatic film "My Mad Life" by Allison Anders, Lee left professional skateboarding and finally decided to devote himself to acting career.

Movies

In the mid-1990s, Jason met director Kevin Smith and unexpectedly got one of the leading roles in the comedy "Supermarket Hangers", or "The Bachelor". The actor managed to create a humorous image of a young nerd Brody, who throughout the action got into ridiculous situations, but, in the end, fulfilled the dream and became the host of the evening show on television.

His next collaboration with Kevin was as Banky Edwards in The Pursuit of Amy. The picture told about the life of friends, creating a comic book and caring for a girl with an unconventional orientation. This work was more successful than the previous one, and in 1998 Lee received the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Thanks to his collaboration with Smith, Jason's filmography quickly increased. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, the sitcoms "Dogma" and "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" and the television series "Ponaroshka" were released, in between which the actor participated in episodes of Cameron Crowe's "Vanilla Sky" and Tony Scott's "Enemy of the State."

Jason first got the lead role on the big screen in 2001. In the adventurous melodrama "Heartbreakers" he played Jack Withrow, a fan of the fraudster Paige Conners played by Jennifer Love Hewitt. This work brought a good fee and along with the youth comedy "The Bachelor" took a worthy place in the creative biography of the actor.

When Jason got tired of playing funny losers, director Lawrence Kazdan invited him to participate in the filming of the fantastic thriller "Dreamcatcher", based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King. Despite the fact that the picture had negative reviews and failed miserably, Lee got a useful experience, playing with such talented actors as Morgan Freeman and Thomas Jane.

In the comedy genre, Jason returned to Greg Garcia's television project "My Name Is Earl." Before agreeing to participate in the story of a crook seeking to atone for the sins of a past life, Lee twice rejected the director's suggestions and doubted that the role would suit him.

As a result, the show gained popularity and for 4 seasons was fixed on the American channel NBC with subsequent world broadcasts, and the lead actor received nominations for the Golden Globes and Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards.

During the broadcast of "Earl" Lee expanded the role and began to voice cartoon characters. In the 2000s, the actor's voice was featured in the feature-length animated films "The Incredibles" and "Monster House", as well as in Seth MacFarlane's cult TV series "American Daddy".

At the same time, the premieres of Kevin Smith's new comedy "Clerks II" and Tim Hill's family picture "Alvin and the Chipmunks" were held in cinemas. In the latter, Jason appeared in the company of singing and pranking animals, created by the American pianist and producer Ross Bagdasaryan - the elder back in 1958.

Between 2009 and 2015, three more films about the composer Dave Savville and his trio, which, despite the negative reviews of critics, were successful in the public and received solid box office.

Other notable works by Jason were the youth comedy "Double KOPets" (2010), the animated film "Noah's Ark: A New Beginning" (2012), the crime drama "Say" (2014) and the family melodrama "Glorious Little Smith" (2015).

Personal life

In his personal life, the athletic and charming Jason Lee has never suffered from a lack of attention from women.

In 1995, his first wife was photographer and actress Carmen Llivelin, who appeared in the film "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back." From the outside, the couple's family life seemed quite happy, but in fact between husband and wife was Scientology. Lee became fascinated with this fashionable religious current in the 1990s, and when Carmen refused to join and began studying books on anti-Scientology, their marriage ended.

Outwardly, Jason quietly survived the breakup and in the early 2000s got engaged to Beth Jean Risgraph, a member of the TV series "My Name Is Earl". In 2003, the lovers had a son, who after listening to the song of indie rock band Grandaddy was given the strange name Pilot Inspector.

This relationship also did not work out, and in 2008 Lee married a young woman named Seren Alkak. The couple had two children: eldest daughter Casper and youngest son Sonny.

In 2016, Lee renounced Scientology, and now the couple, who re-pledged allegiance at a ceremony with friends and family, live together in the Texas city of Denton.
