The media called an accident as the main version: supposedly death came from a heavy shelf falling on the head during water procedures, and since the deceased was alone at home, there was no one to help. Jeanne's friends said that the young woman suffered from an unsettled personal life and had recently abused alcohol, which could provoke an attack.

In view of the public persona of Roshtakova, more daring versions were also put forward: supposedly the husband could have been involved in the death because of the inheritance in the form of a Moscow apartment.
