Biography
James L. Brooks began his career writing, from the 60s, for many television series, such as Lou Grant or Taxi. He started directing for the big screen in 1983 with Tendres Passions. An immediately successful debut, this melodrama written by him and carried by Shirley MacLaine, Debra Winger and Jack Nicholson winning five major Oscars (Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress).
The rest of James L. Brooks' career once again rhymes with the Oscars. His next production, Broadcast News (1987), a satire on the world of television conducted by William Hurt, was nominated seven times. After these big hits on the big screen, the director took a cinematographic break to better meet success ... in animation, creating alongside Matt Groening the cult series The Simpsons .
James L. Brooks returned to the cinema in 1994 with the comedy I'll do anything then met with great success three years later with For the worse and for the better, which brought to its two principal actors, Jack Nicholson, faithful of the filmmaker, and Helen Hunt, the two major Best Performance Awards at the Oscars. Renowned producer (La Guerre des Rose, Big, Jerry Maguire) and screenwriter, rare filmmaker James L. Brooks returned to center stage in 2004 by directing the social comedy Spanglish, starring Adam Sandler and Téa Leoni.
After his participation in The Simpsons - David Silverman's film, in 2007, James L. Brooks signs a new romantic comedy with How to know, meeting for the occasion Jack Nicholson.
