From childhood, James was fond of creativity. When the boy was 10 years old, he found an old typewriter in his parents' house and tried to write books, but did not take the hobby seriously. After completing his studies at school, the guy moved to Provo to become a student at Brigham Young University. He defended his master's degree in accounting.

The next years he worked in the field of finance, but gradually delved into writing. As a result, Deshner decided to devote his life to creativity.

The author is married to Lynette Anderson and they have four children. James prefers not to talk about other details of his personal life.

The author began his career by writing books for children. His first publication was The Door in the Woods, which eventually gave rise to the Jimmy Fincher Saga. It reveals the hero of an adventure in a world where legends come to life.

After the completion of the story, Deshner had to repeatedly receive refusals to publish from various publishers. The author did not despair, started with large houses and gradually sent out drafts to lesser known ones. Following the "Door in the Forest" came "Gift of Ice" and "Tower of Air", they describe the magical gifts that the hero receives. The saga ended with the "War of the Black Veil", where the earthly boy had to fight evil.

The early publications were warmly received by readers of all ages, but became really popular among teenagers. Inspired by his success, James took on the creation of The Maze Runner, which eventually brought him worldwide fame. The author originally intended to continue the Jimmy Fincher Saga, but decided to take a chance and start a new episode.

According to Deschner, he was already falling asleep when the idea for the novel occurred to him. He thought of a group of teenagers who were trapped in a maze inhabited by monsters. While working on the book, the writer was inspired by "Ender's Game" and "Lord of the Flies." The Maze Runner was completed back in 2006, but was not published until 3 years later.

In parallel, James took on the creation of another popular series, The Thirteenth Reality. It is about the travels of a group of teenagers between alternate worlds.

Soon after the publication of The Maze Runner, a sequel to the dystopia Trial by Fire was released. The book describes the adventures of friends who managed to get out of the maze. Then the "Cure for Death" was published, in which the heroes went to the last surviving city to save humanity.

When "Total Threat" appeared on the shelves, it became known that the rights to film the first three works were bought by 20th Century Fox. The main roles in the films were played by Dylan O'Brien, Thomas Sangster and Kaya Scodelario.

The book "Code of Fever", which was published after the release of two paintings, was a huge success. Fans have been keeping an eye on the writer's official website for news of the series' sequel. Immediately after appearing on store shelves, the printed work was sold out by fans of the series. The author was recognized on the streets, asked for photos and autographs.
