Ivan Shabaltas is a Soviet and Russian theater and film actor, People's Artist of Russia, who became famous in his youth thanks to his main roles in the films Time of Sons and Tranquility Canceled. He is still in demand today in his favorite role - high-ranking military or noble lawyers.

Ivan Shabaltas was born on June 20, 1954 in the village of Cherkasskaya Lozovaya, which is 9 kilometers from Kharkov. The boy's parents worked at the factory. Shabaltas grew up a dreamer and a visionary. Like many children of those years, Ivan dreamed of a career as an astronaut or pilot. He dreamed of flying on a plane under the bridge on the Dnieper to repeat the feat of his idol, the legendary pilot Chkalov.

After school, Shabaltas went to Kharkov to apply to the Aviation Institute. Not believing in the possibility of doing without connections, the guy wrote a letter to the famous Soviet cosmonaut Leonov asking for protection. But soon Ivan was admitted to the hospital with a stomach ulcer and was unable to attend the entrance exams.

The guy was forced to go to the factory and wait for the next entry opportunity. His choice fell on the Faculty of Physics. But even here the future actor was not lucky: on the way to the institute, Ivan met a friend who literally persuaded him to enter the Kharkov Institute of Arts. Shabaltas was admitted to the acting department, where he studied for 2 years.

In 1973, Ivan left to conquer Moscow. He had to get rid of the Ukrainian accent for a long time and learn Russian. But this did not prevent him from entering one of the most prestigious theatrical institutes - GITIS. Shabaltas received a scholarship, but there was not enough money, and the student had to earn money as a janitor.

After graduating with honors from the institute, the young man stayed to live in Moscow and began to serve in the theater. In times of crisis, when money from theater performances and filming in films was critically lacking, the actor had to earn money as a taxi driver. He received offers to leave to teach in Canada, but Shabaltas was afraid of becoming a "traitor to his homeland" upon returning to the USSR and refused the offer.

In 1978, the young actor was assigned to the troupe of the Moscow Drama Theater. M.N. Ermolova. There Ivan performed for 2 seasons.

In 1980, Shabaltas received a call from the Moscow Drama Theater on Malaya Bronnaya and was invited to audition for the play Hamlet, which was staged by the famous director Anatoly Efros.
