Igor Yaroslavovich Vovchanchin is a Ukrainian kickboxer, mixed style fighter, who played in the professional MMA league in the light heavyweight category in 1995-2005. According to statistics, the boxer fought 87 fights, of which he lost only 11. IAKSA World Champion in kickboxing (1993).

Igor was born on June 8, 1973 in the village of Feski, in the Kharkov region. At school, the boy studied with varying degrees of success, as he had a freedom-loving disposition. Igor got into fights and often hooligans. Most of all, Vovchanchin loved labor and physical education lessons.
In his youth, he took up athletics, then moved to the boxing section under the guidance of instructor Oleg Ermakov. Soon Igor Vovchanchin passed the standards for master of sports. Having a short stature for a kickboxing fighter (173 cm with a weight of 95 kg), he risked switching to this sport, where he immediately began to achieve great success. In 1995 Igor Vovchanchin made his debut in the professional league at the Kharkiv tournament "Honor of the Warrior", which was held in the framework of MMA. The young fighter knocked out the first two rivals, but lost to the third fighter. After the fight, Igor took up sports training seriously.
In the autumn of the same year, Vovchanchin visited Moscow, where he took part in the International Absolute Fighting Council (IAFC) competition. The fighter won three fights (the second and the third he played against the Brazilian Edilson Lima, whose nose was broken) and got into the main draw. In the fourth match, Vovchanchin's rival was Mikhail Ilyukhin, who won by strangulation.
At the beginning of 1996, Igor Vovchanchin, taking into account previous mistakes, scored three victories in a row at the "Mister Strong Sekai" tournament (over Nikolai Yatsuk, Sergei Bondarovich, Roman Tikunov) and received the title of champion. In March, at a competition in Kiev, Vovchanchin fought with rivals whose weight exceeded the weight of the fighter, but Igor emerged victorious from each round, for which he received the nickname the Giant Killer. The athlete gained worldwide popularity, photos and videos of tournaments with a young fighter were distributed in Europe, the USA and Asia.
In 1997, in Moscow, Igor competed with Leonardo Castello from Brazil, after which he flew to Odessa for the Stars Cup, where, after a victorious battle, Vovchanchin first broke his hand and was forced to admit a technical defeat. Speaking at the Pilot nightclub, Vovchanchin won the first round with Vasily Kudin and, after Igor Gerus and Mikhail Avetisyan refused to compete, became the winner of the tournament.
The next tournaments of the Kharkov fighter were the pankration fights, which took place in Israel, which the Ukrainian also won. The next award was the title of world champion in vale tudo, which Vovchanchin received in Brazil in 1998. In October, the Ukrainian fighter became the winner of the Tokyo tournament, where he knocked out Gary Goodridge.
In 1999, Vovchanchin won a fight with American Mark Kerr at a tournament in Yokohama, but since Igor used prohibited techniques, the results were canceled. As part of the PRIDE-2000 Grand Prix, which was held in Tokyo, Vovchanchin reached the final, where he fought freestyle wrestler Mark Coleman and lost for the first time in his sports career. This was followed by victories in "PRIDE 9 - New Blood", "PRIDE 10 - Return of the Warriors", "PRIDE 11 - Battle of the Rising Sun" and "PRIDE 12 - Cold Fury".
Since 2001, Vovchanchin begins to perform with varying success, periodically losing to rivals. In 2002, the Ukrainian fought with the American boxer Quinton Jackson, who gave Igor a note from his own mother. The woman asked Vovchanchin in writing not to beat her son.
