Biography
Igor Larionov is a legendary Soviet and Russian hockey player who played as a center forward in clubs in Russia, Canada, the United States and Switzerland. The hockey player is one of the top three athletes along with Vyacheslav Fetisov and Scott Niedermeier, who managed to win all the main trophies of world hockey, both at the youth and adult levels.
Igor Larionov was born in the town of Voskresensk near Moscow and from early childhood he "fell ill" with hockey. The fact is that the elder brother of the future hockey player Yevgeny went to the section, and Igor tried to repeat after him. As a little boy, Igor got into the “Chemist” sports school to the coach Vyacheslav Odinokov and began to train hard.
It should be noted that the boy differed from his friends-athletes in his love for the secondary school. Igor did not believe that lessons could be sacrificed in favor of the hockey rink, and was always an excellent student, for which he received the nickname "Professor", with whom he did not part until the end of his sports biography. Another distinguishing feature of Larionov was the athlete's determination. Igor was not afraid to express his own opinion to his comrades, coaches, or teachers.
The first competition of the young athlete was the Golden Puck tournament, in which the hockey player showed himself so well that he was later considered the favorite of any tournament. And at the age of 16, Igor Larionov is already making his debut for the adult team of his native Chemist.

Sport
After three successful seasons in the Moscow Region team, Larionov was ordered from above to be transferred to CSKA, which was then led by Viktor Tikhonov. By the end of the 70s, this club became the permanent champion of the Soviet Union and the base lineup for the USSR national team. In CSKA, Larionov constantly played in a squad with Sergey Makarov and Vladimir Krutov, plus defenders Vyacheslav Fetisov and Alexey Kasatonov were in their top five. These guys became famous all over the world as "Larionov's Five", as they were not separated for many years either at the club level or in the national team.
Igor himself, in the domestic championship alone, played more than 400 matches, in which he scored over 200 goals. Unsurprisingly, the smart and productive striker has caught the attention of professional clubs in North America. True, they did not want to let Igor go, so Larionov resorted to a kind of trick: the athlete wrote and published an open letter in the Ogonyok magazine addressed to coach Tikhonov and the Ministry of Sports. The favorite hockey player was supported by the public, and the green light was given to the leader of CSKA.
In the NHL, the first club of Igor Larionov was the Vancouver Canucks, where the hockey player got together with Vladimir Krutov. But if the latter did not go well, then Larionov sparkled in the NHL. I must say that Igor showed himself not only as a great professional, but also as a very good person. Many young Russian athletes recall that Larionov helped young people adapt to life in Canada and the United States. This is evidenced, among other things, by another legend of Russian sports - Pavel Bure.
In the early 90s, "The Professor" moved to "San Jose Sharks", where he reunited with Sergei Makarov. Their bunch allowed the outsider team not only to reach the playoffs, but also to beat the main favorites of the tournament - the Detroit RedWings. Such dedication was not in vain, and in the next season the hockey player finds himself in these very "Krasnye Krylia". There, the coach specially organizes the "Russian five", which helped the club win the championship and the honorable trophy - the Stanley Cup.
In addition to these teams, Larionov also played for the Swiss club Lugano, the American Florida Panthers, and the last team was the New Jersey Devils. On December 13, 2004, Larionov held a farewell match in Moscow and hung his skates on a nail.
fact
Personal life
The only wife and love of the whole life of Igor Larionov was and remains the famous figure skater Elena Batanova. They got married back in the mid-80s. The family had daughters Alena and Diana, as well as a son, Igor, named after his father. By the way, the two youngest children were born in the United States. Today the family lives in California.
When Larionov went to play in Switzerland for one year, he developed a hobby. Igor learned with great interest everything related to making wine, and this hobby eventually grew into work. Today he has his own winery in California, producing brands such as Hat Trick and Triple Overtime.
At the same time, the former hockey player is developing business in Russia. Igor Larionov's own restaurant, Larionov Grill & Bar, opened in Moscow, and then a second grill bar was opened. These are establishments with a family atmosphere and sports broadcasts on screens in the halls, and you can see both hockey and football, volleyball, basketball and other sports in the grill bars. In the basement of one bar, Igor Nikolaevich also opened a fitness club, creating an innovative establishment - a mix of a sports bar and a sports club.
Igor Nikolayevich does not deny that he would like to open a restaurant chain, but he does not plan the exact number of outlets yet, he claims that he is still checking the market and collecting customer reviews.
Igor Larionov has a common first and last name, so there are at least four Igor Larionovs on Instagram and other social networks, but none of these pages is marked as a verified celebrity account. In addition, the hockey player has a namesake writer, which adds confusion and problems for fans looking to find an idol on the Internet.
fact
Igor Larionov now
Igor Larionov left the ice and stopped his sports biography. But, apparently, one cannot be a “former” hockey player, so Igor Nikolaevich did not completely retire from the sport. He is involved in agency activities and deals with young athletes. Among his clients, for example, Andrey Loktionov, Tyler Segin, the first draft pick of the NHL-2012 Nail Yakupov and other young hockey stars.
Igor Larionov also attends coaching conferences, where he made reports more than once.
In addition, the opinion of the former hockey player is still quoted in the sports world today and remains important to fans and analysts. Igor Larionov regularly gives interviews on sports and sports topics.
In 2017, the famous athlete spoke out on the topic of the doping scandal and gave a detailed interview on this matter to the journalists of the Championship.com website. The former athlete said he did not believe in the anti-Russian conspiracy that the press constantly talks about after the Olympic Committee banned Russia from participating in the Games under its own flag. In proof of his own words that the Olympic Committee is focused not on citizenship, but on justice, Igor Larionov spoke about the disqualification of a number of Turkish and Bulgarian athletes.
According to Larionov, this is a natural reaction of the committee to systematic violations. At the same time, Igor Nikolaevich is sure that such consequences could have been avoided if, after the first deletions and fines, Russian coaches and officials had listened to the requirements of the IOC and WADA and took steps to meet the Committee, corrected mistakes and apologized.
