I don't know if this is the right section, but I will still share my problem. I have a big problem with my 9-year-old son, he is very sensitive, even if you just raise his voice he is offended and cries, not to mention the insults. He does not want to defend himself and impose his opinion, but just stands somewhere and starts crying. First of all, it was normal, but when I started school, things got complicated. I don't want to watch my child suffer and suffer, my heart breaks :( I do my best to let him defend himself and fix himself, but I'm still his mother and I always take him if he has a problem. I always tell him that he should not be tied down, that he should take a position, etc. There is simply no self-confidence.

Enroll him in a martial art (preferably one of the kung fu spectrum, not boxing or something) xii
They can bully him at school, make fun of him for something. I suggest you enroll him in aikido or boxing, a sport to gain determination and self-confidence.
The advice they give about sports is a good idea, but they are not a guarantee that they will help. Check his testosterone level to see if it's normal. At low levels it may become less characteristic and sensitive. Otherwise, I think he's just like that, and you just have to talk to him all the time until he realizes some things, and then things can get better. Remember that after 2012 we have entered a new cycle in which people will begin to change for the better. They will not want to impose their opinion or use force. Children will start to feel this change the most (not all of them, of course).
And I think it's something from school. There are always children who pretend to be older and try to abuse others. Try to talk to him in my opinion. (I don't have children, but that's my advice)
To the commenters: You give this advice to a parent who has managed to undermine the self-esteem of his 9-year-old son. Do you think talking to this parent will help, will martial arts help? Author, your child was born with as much confidence as everyone else. You are the person who has influenced the child's self-esteem. Children learn how to act in the situations that life offers them from their parents. You have taught your son to do so, with your actions or inactions. What does it mean to always take my 9 year old son if there is a problem? So what do you show him, when there is a problem we go home and lick wounds? Why are you a mother to keep it under cover? Let them fight, you are a mother not to command situations, but to embrace to bandage after them and send him outside again. Your 9-year-old should take a peeled knee or insults at school as a normal fact, not roar. If the problem is bigger than I think, go to a child psychotherapist. To go, I'm not saying to take the child, because if your child has problems, they are a consequence of your behavior. You have to change, then little by little your child will get better. If the problem is large, seek professional help.
You give them good advice on boxing, etc., but as a person who has trained for years, I will tell you that they are not for everyone these sports and sometimes have the opposite effect when the boy sees that he is not good.
