In the early 1960s, the girl sang in the R'n'B group Soul Satisfiers, and in 1965, under the pseudonym Gloria Gaynor, she recorded her debut song She'll Be Sorry / Let Me Go Baby. Success awaited the singer 10 years later, when she signed a contract with Columbia Records. The fruit of this collaboration was the album Never Can Say Goodbye (1975).

One side of the record was composed of the songs Honey Bee, Reach Out, I'll Be There and the title Never Can Say Goodbye, "stitched" together. This 19 minute dance marathon has proven to be extremely popular, especially in the clubs. Each track became a hit and played an important role in the development of disco.

I Will Survive has been covered hundreds of times by the rock band Cake, singers Diana Ross, Robbie Williams, Shantai Savage and Larisa Dolina. Gloria Gaynor even starred in the video along with the Russian singer.

A success comparable to I Will Survive was achieved by the song I Am What I Am (1983), which became the unspoken anthem of the LGBT community.

In the personal life of Gloria Gaynor, there was only one man - Linwood Simon. The lovers got engaged in 1979 and, having lived a life full of scandals and stormy reconciliations, divorced in 2005.
