Gifts? Cristmass?

The Story

Hello, I want to ask everyone here what is your attitude to buying Christmas gifts for your nephews? We have kept our expenses to a minimum, especially in the winter, we buy second-hand clothes to save money because we pay for housing. And now, instead of buying something for himself, he wants us to give them money. I know that they are children, that they enjoy gifts, etc. If I have the opportunity, I will buy for all relatives, but I don't. My husband tells me that we should at least give them money so that his brother (his children are) is not offended. Why not buy something for myself or my home and give it to them? It may sound completely selfish, but I'm not. I just do my math and I don't have any extra money. I will be glad to hear other opinions.
