Biography
George P. Cosmatos was born in Italy and very quickly emigrated to Greece. At the age of 29, he was at the helm of The Beloved, based on his own screenplay. In 1973, he directed a war film, SS Reprisals with Richard Burton and Marcello Mastroianni. In 1976 he directed a disaster film: Le Pont de Cassandra with Sophia Loren, Richard Harris and Martin Sheen. He returns to Greece for the purposes of From Athens with Love (1979) with Roger Moore, an action comedy. Despite the lack of critical success, George P. Cosmatos still reunites superb castings for his films.
In 1983, he touched the horror genre with Terreur à domicile, then had his biggest commercial success with Rambo II: The Mission, with Sylvester Stallone, which he again directed in Cobra (1986) but the film was a failure. Leviathan (1989) announces his return to science fiction film but once again the results in theaters are catastrophic. Four years later, he revisits the western and brings together a shock cast for the Tombstone (1993): Kurt Russell, Kurt Russell and Bill Paxton. In 1997, he directed his last film, the thriller High Treason with Charlie Sheen.
