Biography
Garri Bardine studied comedy at the Mkhat Studio-School before joining the Moscow Dramatic Theater troupe. At the invitation of Sergueï Obraztsov, he then became a director-director at the National Puppet Theater.
In 1975, he entered the Soyouzmoultfilm studio; in fifteen years, he made as many animated films there, on which he was both director and screenwriter. First exploring the world of cartooning, Bardine found his true cinematographic notoriety by devoting himself to other animation techniques: modeling clay (La Boxe, 1985; Le Loup gris et le Petit Chaperon rouge, 1990), wire (Fioritures, 1987), and even matches (Le Conflit, 1983) or even string (Le Mariage, 1987) ... This constant formal research was rewarded with the Palme d'Or for Best Short Film at the 1988 Cannes Film Festival. .
In 1991, he founded the Stayer studio with his closest and loyal collaborators. Little shown in its own country, it enjoys growing international popularity thanks to Le Chat botté (1995), La Nounou (1997) and its sequel La Nounou et les pirates (2001), as well as Adagio (2000). .
