Frédéric Chau

Arrived in France when he was only 6 months old, after his parents had fled Cambodia from the Khmer Rouge then Vietnam, Frédéric Chau grew up in the 18th arrondissement of Paris then in Seine St Denis. The eldest of three children, his parents provided him with a strict education and sent him to study in Paris when he reached high school age. 

After obtaining a scientific baccalaureate, then a DUT in telecommunications, he took some time for the advertising agency "People", then, eager for travel, became a steward for Air France in 1998. Finally deciding to devote himself to comedy, for a year, in 2004, he took lessons at the Théâtre Espace Marais. The castings proving to be unsuccessful, he embarks on the stand-up, which brings him a first recognition. He then created the collective "Barres de Rires" with some rising comedians including Fabrice Eboué and Thomas N'Gijol with whom he was spotted by the director of Jamel Debbouze.

Ensuring the opening act of Debbouze's new one-man show, "100% Jamel", he subsequently joined the Jamel Comedy Club in 2006 like many of his "Barre de Rires" cronies. His sketches play in particular on his Chinese origins, on the fact that he is the only Asian of the group and on the clichés which result from it. He participated with the other members of the Club in the dubbing of Chihuahua de Beverly Hills, in 2008, and finally left it in 2009 to devote himself entirely to his acting career.

Frédéric Chau got his first feature film role in Eden à l'Ouest (2009) by Costa-Gavras before specializing in quirky community comedies. He appears in Banlieue 13 - Ultimatum, then Neuilly his mother! and sees his career take off from 2010. We find him then in From Paris with Love, Coursier, Halal State Police, always in comic roles, often caricatured and playing on his origins. He then plays in Slim then! by Charlotte De Turckheim, then Paris at any price and What we did to the good god, in which he finds the actress. He also gets a place in Lucy, by Luc Besson.
