François Cluzet-oldguyuk

Marked by Brel's performance on stage in L'Homme de la Mancha , François Cluzet, son of a newsagent from the 7th arrondissement, dreamed of becoming famous very early on. As a teenager, he sang in rock groups, but his love of lyrics led him to comedy. Leaving high school at 17, he joined Cours Simon, then those of Périmony and Cochet. After debuting on the boards in 1976 and some TV movies, he appeared in the cinema in 1980 in Cocktail Molotov by Diane Kurys. The same year, Claude Chabrol, who would become his favorite director, entrusted him with one of the main roles in his peasant column in Bigouden country, Le Cheval d'orgueil. They will meet again in 1982 for Les Fantômes du chapelier.

The year 1983 was very rich for François Cluzet, brother of Pinpon-Souchon in The murderous summer and child of the people in Vive la sociale, two performances which in 1984 earned him the Jean-Gabin Prize and a double nomination for the César (Best hope and supporting role). Sometimes compared to Dustin Hoffman, the actor is equally at ease as a big-hearted proletarian in Force Majeure (1989) as a dishonest entrepreneur in Association de malfaiteurs or Camille Desmoulins in The French Revolution. Still in the 80s, he crossed paths with Gatlif, Claire Denis, and toured with the two Bertrand of French cinema: Tavernier (the jazzy Autour de minuit in 1986) and Blier (Too beautiful for you). Later, he will work with two great Americans, Altman and Kasdan.

He, whose model is Spencer Tracy in Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, readily embodies troubled individuals. Her mentor Chabrol offers her the role of the mediocre husband of Huppert in A Woman's Affair, and the jealous one of Béart in L'Enfer (1994). This taste for tormented characters leads him to encompass writers on several occasions, in a melancholy (end of August, beginning of September) or zany mode (The Midnight Exam) and especially The Apprentices of Salvadori, one of his greatest successes, in 1995. He then illustrated himself especially in comedy, showing a predilection for the sweet crazy, as evidenced by his delirious compositions in France boutique of Tonie Marshall, Janis and John or even Quatre étoiles.

Yet it is his performance in a thriller, Don't tell anyone about Guillaume Canet (one of the 2006 box office champions) who earned him his first César. He will find the actor / director in 2008 for Blood Links. Having become a leading actor, François Cluzet participates in the luxurious choral film Paris by Cédric Klapisch and continues the strong leading roles: alcoholic in The Last for the Road (2009), he often finds himself in stories of crooks and gangsters in all kinds, as in Originally (2008) or in Blanc comme neige (2010). For Les Petits mouchoirs, his third collaboration with Guillaume Canet, François Cluzet brilliantly plays the far too stressed band leaders, alongside Marion Cotillard, Benoît Magimel, Gilles Lellouche and Jean Dujardin.

Cluzet does not hesitate to slip into the shoes of characters from different social categories. Proof of this is in 2011, the actor going from a precarious status in My father is a cleaning lady to a more than comfortable status in Intouchables, in which he plays the role of a wealthy aristocrat befriending someone. 'one very different from him, played by the comedian Omar Sy. After the dazzling success of Untouchables and its 20 million spectators in France, Cluzet remains in the register of comedy but in a lighter perspective. Indeed, the actor turns with and under the direction of Yvan Attal in Do Not Disturb, the story of two friends who get it into their heads to shoot together an amateur gay porn. The film is unfortunately a critical and commercial failure.

In 2013, the actor hijacks an armored van in Philippe Godeau's thriller inspired by real life events, 11.6. François slips into the skin of Toni Musulin, a money conveyor who got his hands on a loot of 11.6 million euros before being arrested. The same year, he got lost at sea in Christophe Offenstein's maritime drama, En Solitaire. Lover of Sophie Marceau in Une Rencontre (2014), best friend of Vincent Cassel in A moment of distraction (2015), the actor also plays a country doctor whose days are numbered (2016), a discreet man in the heart of 'a political plot in The Mechanics of the Shadow (id.) and a nature-loving poacher in L'Ecole buissonnière (2017).
