Having dropped out of school, the young man announced his intention to become a writer and went to the journalism department. The father, who himself secretly wrote “on the table,” supported his son. But the mother considered this occupation frivolous. After graduating from high school in 1977, the young man did not work by profession and decided to take up his first novel.

The debut novel "Dzhevdet-Bey and His Sons" was released in 1982 and immediately won two awards. The book is a family saga and tells the story of three generations of a family that is going through a transition to new values. After reading the first manuscript of his son, Orhan's father predicted that he would receive the Nobel Prize.

The author's last novel, "Red-haired Woman," was published in 2016. The book tells about the love of a young lyceum student for the mysterious actress of a traveling theater. An event that occurred in his youth had a fatal impact on his entire fate. The multi-layered plot reveals the hero at different stages of life: first, the reader sees him as an inexperienced young man, then as an energetic man and, as a result, as a wise old man with gray hair.
