Fabián Bielinsky

Passionate about the seventh art, Fabián Bielinsky began making films in 1972 when he was only 13 years old. He joined the cinema branch of the public high school in Buenos Aires and directed his first short merage entitled Continuidad de los parques, adapted from the novel of the same name by the writer Julio Cortazar. He graduated from the National Institute of Cinematography with La Espera, a short film inspired this time by a short story by Luis Borges. This film got noticed by winning the first prize at the Huesco International Film Festival in Spain.

A few years later, he worked as a second-team director and assistant director on more than 400 spots.advertising and some feature films (Alambrado), while giving courses in film analysis and cinema production at the Institute from which he himself graduated. He then enriched his palette by becoming a co-writer on La Sonambula, a science fiction film by Fernando Spiner.

In 1998, Fabián Bielinsky received the first prize in a competition for the script of the Nine Queens. This reward allows him to jump the course of the realization and to transpose on the screen his own scenario. This detective film triumphed in Argentina and won 7 awards - including those for best screenplay, best director and best film - from the critics ( Argentinan Film Critic's Association Award ). The success is such that Gregory Jacobs, assistant to Steven Soderbergh,in 2004. Continuing in the same vein, Fabián Bielinsky directs El Aura (2006), a surprising thriller where it is always about the "heist of the century".
