The first to notice the excellent sports data of his son was his father, a volleyball player. At the age of 5, Eugene picked up a tennis racket and soon demonstrated an amazing "sense of the ball". This was confirmed by the boy's first coaches Valery Peschanko and Valery Shishkin. At the age of 6 he already participated in tournaments. At 7, Kafelnikov was included in the group of the Olympic reserve of the Soviet national tennis team.

Tennis

The prospects of 13-year-old Kafelnikov were highly estimated, but coach Valery Shishkin did not want to force the events and "held back" the athlete for the snatch. And so it happened: in 1990, Evgeny won the Youth World Cup.

The following year, the young athlete trained at the Nick Bollettieri Academy in Florida. After that, Evgeny Kafelnikov returned to the country and finally moved to the capital. The young athlete was admitted to the VFSO "Dynamo". The leading master of Russia Anatoly Lepeshin became the coach of Kafelnikov for many years. According to Evgeny, it was this mentor who made a real athlete out of the young man. For the promotion of the ward, the coach found sponsors, since the family of the young athlete could not afford to finance his son's training and travel to tournaments.

Lepeshin, together with Yevgeny, went to all competitions, teaching them to iron discipline. The young man received his higher education at the Kuban Academy of Physical Education.

The sports biography of Yevgeny Kafelnikov looks like a rapidly taking off rocket. From the initial 423 place in the world rankings, which he occupied in 1991, Kafelnikov managed to reach the first hundred of the best tennis players in the world. And a year later, the Russian approached the top ten tennis court leaders. Eugene was accepted into the elite of world tennis.

Since 1995, Yevgeny Kafelnikov has consistently ranked among the ten strongest tennis players in the world. The rivals of the Russian were Pete Sampras, Patrick Rafter, Michael Stich, Andre Agassi, Thomas Muster and others. Kafelnikov won and reached the finals and quarterfinals of the Kremlin Cup, Grand Slam and Davis Cup tournaments.

But the main victory of Evgeny Kafelnikov happened in 1996. The Russian tennis player was the first among compatriots to win the Roland Garros tournament in singles.

In 1998, the athlete set himself an ambitious task: to achieve leadership positions in the world rankings. For this, the tennis player changed his coach. Lepeshin's place was taken by American Larry Stefanki.

Kafelnikov achieved his goal and soon won the 2nd Grand Slam tournament, and in the spring of 1999 Evgeny was named the first racket of the world. But the XXVII Summer Olympics in Sydney brought the tennis player a real triumph. Evgeny Kafelnikov became the champion, having managed to bypass German tennis player Tommy Haas in the final. The fortune of the Russian tennis star in 2001 was estimated at $ 15 million.

In 2002, another landmark victory: the Russian was in the lead at the most prestigious tournament in the history of world tennis - the Davis Cup. Since then, the tennis player is considered a true legend of the sport. Kafelnikov is famous for his unique attacking style of play, for which he received the nickname "Kalashnikov".

Having reached an unheard-of height, the athlete quietly left the "front line". Eugene did not announce this and did not arrange any "farewell" competitions. Kafelnikov simply stopped participating in tournaments. But, having managed to reach the top, he could not leave the sport. Eugene switched to golf, in which he also managed to achieve victories. Since 2005, the athlete has been participating in top-level competitions. In 2011, he was in the lead in the Russian championship, literally snatching a victory in the last minutes of the round.

In the late 2000s, Eugene temporarily resumed his tennis career. Kafelnikov took part in tennis veteran tournaments. Tennis fans could watch a friendly match between the Russian athlete and Thomas Muster, who shone at the Grand Slam tournaments in the mid-90s. The meeting of the two sports legends took place within the framework of Roland Garros-2009.

A year later, Kafelnikov re-entered the court against Andrei Medvedev, Goran Ivanishevich and Michael Shtikh. In the same year, Eugene, for the first time in his sports career, reached the final Wimbledon competition, paired with Wayne Ferreira.

In 2010-2011, Kafelnikov became a member of the Tennis Legends in Moscow tournament together with Jim Courier, Andrey Cherkasov and Marat Safin.

Yevgeny Kafelnikov also pilots planes and plays poker brilliantly. The athlete competed in the 2005 World Series of Poker tournament. The legendary athlete does not forget about charity. In 2001, Evgeny won the Kremlin Cup and handed over the entire prize of $ 100 thousand to the relatives of those killed in the plane crash over the Black Sea. In his hometown, Kafelnikov finances a section for young tennis players. Evgeny also became a sponsor of a local clinical hospital by purchasing expensive equipment.

Personal life

The huge employment of the tennis player did not allow to be distracted by everything that did not concern sports. But at 23, Yevgeny Kafelnikov's personal life changed. The athlete met the beautiful model Maria Tishkova. Masha traveled with Eugene for a long time to different cities and countries, where her husband participated in tournaments and olympiads.

In 1998, the news of Masha's pregnancy "hastened" the couple to marry. In the same year, daughter Alesya was born. For Maria, the girl turned out to be the second child, because the model already had a daughter, Diana, born in her first marriage to singer Christian Ray.

After the appearance of the second daughter, Maria did not have time to travel for her husband. The wife and her daughters were waiting for the spouse at home. Among other things, Masha was carried away by the religious movement, of which her father became a prominent adherent. The woman donated considerable sums to the needs of the Canadian sect, with which her husband did not want to put up. The relationship went wrong and led to a divorce.

The couple's separation, which happened three years after the wedding, turned out to be painful and scandalous. Kafelnikov sued his daughter Alesya from his wife. Eugene tried to arrange a personal life, but soon reunited with his wife again. Together with Maria, Eugene managed to light up at social events. Later, Maria again disappeared from the inner circle of the former tennis player.

Now the daughter of tennis player Alesya Kafelnikov lives with her father and is making progress in her modeling career. As a child, Alesya lived in Sochi with Yevgeny's parents, where she spent time on the tennis court, at a riding school, then studied in Moscow and abroad. At the age of 15, she began her modeling career. The girl decided to get higher education in Russia and entered two universities: the Financial Academy and the Ostankino School of Television. On the blue screen, Alesya made her debut in the talk show "Let Them Talk" with Andrei Malakhov.

For some time, there was a misunderstanding between the father and Alesya, which was provoked by the father's post on Twitter about his daughter's drug addiction. Alesia was outraged by this recording, the girl publicly refused to communicate with her father. Soon, relations between relatives improved.
