Evgeny Vladimirovich Knyazev was born on August 9, 1955 in the village of Skuratovo, Tula Region, not far from the famous Yasnaya Polyana. In addition to Zhenya himself, 3 more sisters were brought up in the family. Mother was a housewife, and father was a miner. They did not live well. The dream of a theatrical stage settled in Zhenya's heart from an early age, but its realization was long and difficult.

After graduating from school in 1972, Eugene goes to Moscow in the hope of enrolling in the Shchukin Theater School. But hopes are not justified, and the young man has to go to the Mining Institute. But even there his childhood dreams do not leave him.

Starting from the 3rd year, Eugene actively participates in student amateur performances. While doing practice in Leningrad, the future actor decided to test his strength again and entered the course of Ruben Argamerzyan at LGITMiK. But the business he had begun had to be completed, and in 1978 Zhenya received a diploma from the Mining Institute.

The second attempt to storm the theater school was successful, and Yevgeny Knyazev was enrolled in the course of the teacher Lyudmila Vladimirovna Stavskaya.
