Elena Bondarenko's biography began on May 26, 1974 in the city of Makeyevka, Donetsk region. The girl was born into a poor family of a nurse and a miner. Only Elena's father had a small salary, in contrast to the miners of the longwall. Therefore, as Bondarenko said in an interview, if they bought an extra toy for the neighbour's children, then Elena's parents signed the expenses to the penny.

And so it happened: the girl graduated from school with a silver medal and at the age of 18 she became a student of the history faculty at a Donetsk university, and in the 3rd year she entered a related specialty - journalism. In 1996, Elena graduated from the university, becoming a certified journalist and historian.

Bondarenko's career began in the regional weekly "Donetskie Novosti" as a freelance correspondent. But a year later, the girl moved to the information service "TRK Ukraine".

In 1997, Elena took up political journalism and again changed her job: she moved to the regional branch of the Inter TV channel, where she organized weekly reviews of political events. After 2 years, Bondarenko interrupted her television career and began to write articles for the newspaper "Life".

The same period was marked by Bondarenko's accusatory speech against Andriy Shevchenko, a representative of the Batkivshchyna party.
