Ekaterina Nikolaevna Vilmont was born on April 24, 1946 in Moscow. The girl's father and mother were professional translators. Nikolai William-Vilmont was a Germanist and author of works on German literature. Mother Natalia Man translated from 3 languages: German, French and English.

Until the age of 49, Ekaterina did not write anything "of her own", her profile remained professional translations. Although it was not easy to earn a reputation in this niche: at first the publishers did not believe that the translations were done by Wilmont herself - they suspected that eminent parents were working for her.

However, in the USSR, a person had to be employed. Therefore, Catherine first "worked" as the literary secretary of Gennady Fish, a writer and a longtime friend of the Vilmonts. Later, starting to translate, she got a job at the publishing house "Khudozhestvennaya literatura" in a "fake" position. This was Catherine's official place of work until she was admitted to the Writers' Union.

At the beginning of her own creative path, the translator was pushed by financial problems. In the 1990s, the profession turned out to be unclaimed, little money was paid for transfers. And then a friend advised Catherine to sit down and write something on her own. Thus, in 1995, Wilmont's first book, The Journey of an Optimist, or All Women are Fools, was born.

However, it was published only in 1997, and before that Catherine wrote children's detective stories. The work schedule set by the publishing house was tough - a book a month. Now the writer is not engaged in children's literature, but, despite the sweatshop system, she considers those years to be an excellent school.

It is difficult to write books for children - the genre in which The Secret of the Lost Treasure and other works about the adventures of Dasha Lavretskaya are written imposes a lot of restrictions. But this formed a high level of professionalism, and thanks to detective stories for young readers, Vilmont received first fame. Wilmont got used to living alone after a terrible tragedy: in 1984, her mother died in a fire. As a result, Nikolai Vilmont managed to get out of the burning apartment, but the man could not get his spouse out - by that time Natalia's room was already on fire. Catherine's father survived his wife for 2 years, and after his death, Catherine, who had previously lived with her parents, decided to remain alone.

However, the woman does not hide that another reason for the absence of her husband is that Catherine never met great love. In the biography of the writer there were many novels, and one, very painful, was partially retold in the book "The Journey of the Optimist ...".

Wilmont had another bright, meaningful novel for her. Ekaterina Nikolaevna did not divulge the name of this person, saying only that he was a rocketman.
