Ekaterina Ilyina is a Russian handball player of the Rostov-Don team from Rostov-on-Don, as well as the women's national team, in which she won gold at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in the summer of 2016.

Catherine was born and raised in the city of Togliatti. There, the girl first entered the handball section. Ekaterina Ilyina began her sports biography with the backup teams of the Lada team from her hometown. But in the main team, a strong team was selected, and at the age of 18 it was difficult for a handball player to get there. Therefore, Ekaterina accepted the invitation of the former Lada coach Alexei Gumyanov, who headed the new club, and moved to Krasnodar Kuban, where she took the leading roles in women's handball.

Later, the athlete returned to Togliatti and won her first ever trophy with Lada - the EHF Cup. But the longed-for championship did not come in hand - together with Lada, Ekaterina became the silver medalist of the Russian championship, so Ilyina moved to Rostov-on-Don, where they organized a serious project - the Rostov-Don team led by a foreign coach, Danish Jan Leslie. With this team, Ekaterina won domestic competitions and performed superbly in the Champions League.
