The songs of the "Ellipsis" group are that rare case in Russian-language rap, when deep meaning, soulful presentation and pleasant musical accompaniment are organically combined, which deserves the title of arrangement, and not "backing track".

During the years of activity, the composition of the group consisted of a different number of musicians and performers. For example, on November 15, 1998 - it was then that the creative team "Ellipsis" was founded - the group consisted of 12 people, half of whom really worked, while the rest were more "for weight".

Of course, the group had a certain backbone, which included Kuzmitch (Ilya Kuznetsov), Gena Grom, Tyukha (Andrei Tyrnov), Dimon (Dmitry Korablin), L. BeeAtch, Nelegal (Lasha Imnaishvili) and, of course, Rustaveli (Rustam Alyautdinov ) - developer of the group concept and informal leader.

Significant contributions to the development of "Dots" were made by King Kong, Dj Hassan, White Hot Ice, Farochka, Mikhail Krasoderevshchik and TimBot (the latter was more of an administrator than a musician).

The current line-up of the group, which is now performing under the name "Ellipsis Band", includes Rustaveli, Grela, Viktor, DJ Hassan, Sanchez, Andrei, Zheku and J.

From the very beginning, Rustam Alyautdinov had a strong vision of what a new rap group should be like. The then young musician shared his thoughts with his comrades, who immediately picked up and developed the idea. This is how the Ellipsis project appeared, which later became one of the most successful non-production projects in Russian rap.

The first studio sessions date back to 1998, and a year later "Ellipsis" performed at the largest Russian genre festival Rap Music. Although they did not manage to win a prize, their song "It Happens in Life" became a popular hit - largely due to the rotation on the radio.

In 2000, the musicians perform at the Mikro 2000 festival. At the same time, the first major restructuring takes place in the "Ellipsis", during which many participants are eliminated because they are not needed. The release of the first version of "Something else" dates back to the same year.

The group's debut album was released only in 2001 and received the title "Life and Freedom". The album consisted of 26 songs that the Dots rappers had been recording at Dots Family Records for the past three years. The hits of the first disc were “Tell Me, Brother”, “Hunger of Nuclear Craters”, “White Leaves”, “Dirty World” and, of course, “It happens in life”.

The song "Revelation", also included in the album, served as a soundtrack to the film "Dust" by Sergei Loban ("TV", "Shapito-show"), in which Alexey Podolsky and Pyotr Mamonov appeared.

Life and Freedom was released by the Kvadro-Disc label. Due to the inattention of the band's director during the signing of the distribution agreement, the musicians received absolutely no profit from the sales of the album.

Their next album "Ellipsis" was released at the end of November 2002. The new disc also consisted of 26 compositions and was called "Atoms of Consciousness". The hits of "Atoms of Consciousness" were the compositions "Anguish in the soul", "It is all to blame", "The last meeting" and, of course, "I am embarking on serious things."

One of the songs on this album - "America" ​​- was also used in the film, this time in the comedy "Hottabych" by Pyotr Tochilin ("Eat before", "Werewolf Hunt"), in which the Honored Artist of the Kazakh SSR Vladimir Tolokonnikov starred (" Heart of a Dog, Grandmother of Easy Behavior).

In 2003, together with the M.Squad team, the musicians from "Ellipsis" began work on the "Third Way" project. Then a new wave of restructuring began in the group. As a result, by the end of this year, "Ellipsis" released the release "Unmeasured", consisting of 13 tracks (7 of which are remixes of old songs), and jointly with M.Squad "Third Way. Burime 12 ”was released in 2004.

The whole 2005 was spent on tour for the band - no new releases were planned. A similar situation was the following year, with the only difference that the number of performances became noticeably less. The official reason was the statement that the musicians began to devote more time to their personal lives, but the appearance of individual members of "Ellipsis" in side projects suggested the opposite.

The group officially broke up in 2007 - the musicians themselves informed the fans about this, without specifying the reasons for this decision.

One way or another, the backbone of the "Ellipsis" headed by Rustaveli remained. It was decided to continue performing, but already as DotsFam (in honor of the recording studio, where many of the Ellipsis members met each other). Under the new name, the musicians performed with individual compositions of the "Dots", and also recorded new material.

In total, DotsFam released three albums: Fuckt # 1 (2005), Zombusiness (2009) and Mirrors (2011). After that it was decided to return to the previous name. Since 2011, the musicians have performed as the "Ellipsis Band". 

They call their current style art rap, but they are not very offended when they are referred to as alternative rap. Rappers don't use recorded arrangements, preferring to perform live. In 2013, the team released two discs at once - The Living Truth and Territory of Desires, and in 2014 only one - Under the Asphalt Sky. 

It is also worth mentioning that some songs are attributed to the group by mistake. This happened, for example, with "Breathe", which is actually called "Look at the sky" and was written by the "Breathe" group (and the guys from "Ellipsis" just released it on an inter-author collection).

In 2017, Rustaveli, with the support of his bandmates, released the album "Mirror for a Hero", during the presentation of which he casually mentioned that the guys from the "Ellipsis Band" were working on new material. In addition, the musicians continue to actively perform with the old program - the nearest of such performances will take place in early February at the Glastonberry club in the capital.

The group did not have full clips, since this contradicted the concept and charter developed by Rustaveli. Therefore, all the musical video material is just filming at concerts and a rehearsal base.
