Biography
Dolores Mary Eileen O'Riordan is the vocalist of perhaps the most famous Irish rock band The Cranberries: she was the "voice" until her death, from 1990 to 2018. The singer's folklore sound has gathered an army of fans all over the world.
fact
Childhood and youth
Dolores Mary Eileen O'Riordan was born on September 6, 1971 in Bellibriken, near the Irish city of Limerick. Parents Terence O'Riordan and Eileen Greensmith were poor farmers. The father, who lost his ability to work due to brain injury (later cancer) due to a motorcycle accident, worked as a supplier of school supplies.
The family had seven children: five boys and two girls (two more died as babies). Dolores was the youngest daughter. Despite the modest income, the O'Riordan had a solid wooden house, which burned down when the future singer was 7 years old.
Parents tried to instill spirituality in their children; half-hour prayer was an obligatory ritual. The future singer studied at Laurel Hill Coláiste FCJ School in Limerick. She skipped classes and wrote music instead.
From early childhood, Dolores loved music: she sang in the church choir, played the pipe and piano. At the age of 9-10, her parents took her to a pub, where visitors asked the baby to perform something in the country style. These were mainly Dolly Parton songs. At the age of 17, the future singer mastered the guitar.
fact
Music
In 1989, brothers Mike (bass) and Noel (guitar) Hogan formed The Cranberry Saw Us with drummer Fergal Lawler and singer Niall Quinn in Limerick. Less than a year later, the latter left the group. There was an announcement about the search for a vocalist. O'Riordan answered the ad and came to audition with her favorite song in her youth, Sinead O'Connor. Dolores wrote the lyrics and melodies for some of the existing demos, and she was taken over. So the creative biography of the performer began.
The band changed their name to The Cranberries. The first hit was the song "Linger" to the words of Dolores, dedicated to the first love.
Pierce Gilmore, owner of Xeric Studios, became manager of The Cranberries and gave the band time to complete another demo. Early versions of "Linger" and "Dreams" were sent to UK record companies. The band signed to Island Records and released 5 albums with it.
Fame for O'Riordan came with the release of The Cranberries' second album "No Need to Argue" on October 4, 1994 and his title song "Zombie" (the single was released two weeks before the official release of the disc). This is a protest song by an Irish rock band, written after the 1993 Warrington bombing, to commemorate the victims of the attack. Dolores wrote the song, which peaked at No. 1 on the charts in Australia, Belgium, France, Denmark and Germany, and won Best Song at the MTV Europe Music Awards in 1995.
In September 1995, the singer performed "Ave Maria" with Luciano Pavarotti. Princess Diana, who was present at the concert, admitted that the song moved her to tears. In 1999, Dolores, along with other rock stars, recorded a cover of The Rolling Stones 'It's Only Rock' n Roll (But I Like It), and took part in Pope John Paul II's Christmas concerts.
The Cranberries' discography from 1993 to 2001 consists of 5 studio albums, and then there was a break in the band's work for experiments on solo projects. In 2004, Dolores sang Pure Love for the Zu & Co album with the Italian singer Zucchero.
In the same year she worked with composer Angelo Badalamenti from Twin Peaks on the soundtracks for the film Evilenko, and Angels in Paradise became the title song of the film.
In 2005, Klyukovka (as the performer was called) appeared on the album of the German duo Jam & Spoon as a guest star. In 2006, she starred in a cameo role as a wedding singer (performed "Linger") in the comedy with Adam Sandler "Click", as well as in the TV series "Charmed".
During these years Dolores O'Riordan worked on her solo album Are You Listening? (2007), for which she wrote more than 30 songs about what worried her: family, faith, nostalgia for a past childhood. With this project, the singer went on a tour of Europe, which was interrupted due to illness.
In December 2007, she performed at several small American clubs. The second solo album "No Luggage", consisting of 11 tracks, was released in August 2009.
In January 2009, the University Philosophical Society of Trinity College (Dublin) invited The Cranberries to a concert dedicated to O'Riordan's appointment as an honorary member. This made the band members consider reuniting for a tour and recording.
On August 25, 2009, while promoting her solo album on an American radio station, O'Riordan announced that The Cranberries are back together. During the world tour, the band played compositions from Dolores' solo albums, The Cranberries classics, as well as new songs.
In April 2014, O'Riordan began recording material in collaboration with Andy Rourke of The Smiths and Ole Koretsky (DJ). A trio called DARK was formed, their first album Science Agrees was released in September 2016.
On May 26, 2016, The Cranberries announced that they were planning to start a European tour. The first performance took place on June 3.
O'Riordan remained with The Cranberries and DARK until her unexpected death on January 15, 2018.

Personal life
On July 18, 1994, O'Riordan married Don Burton, former Duran Duran tour manager. The couple had three children: Taylor (1997), Molly (2001) and Dakota (2005).
In 1998, Dolores and Don bought a 61 hectare (150 acre) stud farm called Riversfield Stud, located in Kilmallock, County Limerick. They then moved to Howth, County Dublin, and spent the summer in a log cabin in Canada.
In 2013, the lead singer of The Cranberries in an interview with reporters spoke about sexual violence for 4 years, starting at the age of 8. A neighbor or a friend of her parents (the singer did not name her name) forced the girl to engage in oral sex with him. After the experience, Dolores suffered from depression, anorexia and drug addiction, wanted to commit suicide.
For 20 years with her husband, the singer's personal life was cloudless and happy. In 2014, there was a divorce, the children stayed with their father. A black streak began in the fate of Klyukovka.
In November 2014, O'Riordan was taken into custody and charged with assault following an incident aboard Aer Lingus from New York to Shannon. During the flight, she began to verbally and physically abuse the crew. When the police arrested Dolores, she resisted, shouting:
Then she hit the head of one police officer and spat on another. Later, Klyukovka told the media that after breaking up with her husband, she had the stress of living in New York hotels. The judge hearing the case agreed to dismiss all charges if she apologized in writing to the victims and donated € 6,000 to the poor.
In May 2017, Dolores publicly discussed her illness, bipolar disorder, which she said had been diagnosed two years earlier. Due to back problems, The Cranberries canceled the second leg of their European tour.
At the end of 2017, O'Riordan tweeted that she was recovering and spoke at a private event. Her last stage appearance was on December 14, 2017 in New York at the Billboard-Hollywood Reporter Media Group's holiday party.
The singer did not have an Instagram page, but she has a fan account with thousands of followers.

Death
Dolores O'Riordan passed away abruptly in a London hotel on January 15, 2018 at the age of 46. She flew to England to record a new version of "Zombie" with the band Bad Wolves.
The cause of death was not immediately made public. The police said she was not viewed as suspicious. In the office of the coroner's office, the announcement of the verdict was postponed several times, and then they said that the singer drowned in the bathroom while intoxicated. Whether this is true or not is unknown.
Farewell to Klyukovka took place in her hometown, in the Church of St. Joseph. At the ceremony, songs by O'Riordan were performed, and photos from the singer's performances were posted along the walls.
Dolores was buried on January 23, 2018. The service took place at the Roman Catholic Church of Saint Ailba, Ballybriken, County Limerick. It began with a studio recording of "Ave Maria" performed by O'Riordan and Luciano Pavarotti. At the end of the service the Cranberries sang the song “When You're Gone”.
Among those present at the funeral were her mother Eileen, as well as her three children - Taylor, Molly and Dakota, their father, O'Riordan's ex-husband, Don Burton; Sister Angela and brothers Terenty, Brendan, Donal, Joseph and PJ; band musicians Noel Hogan, Michael Hogan and Fergal Lawler; former rugby player Ronan O'Gara and DJ Ole Koretsky.
