Dmitry Shurov

"Pianoboy" is a musical project by the Ukrainian artist Dmitry Shurov. During his creative biography, he managed to work with popular groups like Okean Elzy, Zemfira's team, Esthetic Education. After the Vinnitsa school number 21, the young man became a student of a French college in Limoges, where he came under an exchange program. Then he lived for a year in the city of Provo in the US state of Utah. This opportunity appeared thanks to the international FLEX program. It involves studying in local schools and living with families during classes. Shurov ended up in a family with three adopted children. They suffered from neurological diseases, and Dima helped to look after them.

Behind the shoulders of the future artist was a music school graduate certificate, and he was still fond of music. Back in America, Dmitry collaborated with a jazz group, the Barbershop quartet, and was also a member of the octet and a soloist of the choir.

Excellent knowledge of French and English allowed the young man to easily enter the Kiev Linguistic University upon returning home. To become a student of the Kiev-Mohyla Academy, which he dreamed of, one point was not enough.

Talking about his personal life, Dmitry explains that he is monogamous. The musician is married to Olga Tarakanovskaya. She is the PR manager of her husband's team. The couple are raising a daughter, Margarita, and a son, Leo.

The artist admits that he does not really like excessive tenderness and infantilism, so this is not accepted in his house. The family now lives in Kiev.

Shurov has accounts on social networks. The musician maintains pages on VKontakte, Facebook and Instagram, where he regularly publishes new posts, photos and videos from concerts and so on.

While studying in the 2nd year, Dima was known in narrow circles as a jazz pianist. By that time, he already had material for the first album, but fate decreed otherwise. Shurov did not go into solo work, but became a member of the Okean Elzy group. The musician joined the band in 2000 on the recommendation of the band's bassist and his friend Yuri Khustochka. Dmitry became a co-author of the song "Oto Bula Spring". His debut in the group took place in the same year, and already in 2001, the artist participated in the recording of two albums.

Together with "Okean Elzy" Shurov went on tour in Ukraine and the CIS, and in 2004 decided to leave the team. Commenting on the situation later, frontman Svyatoslav Vakarchuk very much regretted the departure of his colleague.

Dmitry understood that he had exhausted himself as a member of the team. But he again did not dare to engage in solo work and chose to join the Esthetic Education project. Here Shurov participated in the recording of two discs, which contained tracks in the genre of indie music. The group's creativity could not be called commercially successful, and by 2011 the project had ended.

From 2007 to 2008 Dmitry Shurov worked with Zemfira and was a co-producer of her disc "Thank you". He has performed as a pianist on tour and has been on stage for 100 concerts.

After leaving the team of Zemfira, the artist worked on the opera "Leo and Leia", an excerpt from which was used at the fashion show of fashion designer Alena Akhmadullina in Paris. During this period, Dmitry got the idea to create his own project. He invited his sister Olga to cooperate, gathered musicians, and in 2009 the band debuted at the Moloko Music Fest. The first song "Pianoboy" presented to the public was "Smysla.net". The track was put into rotation on the radio. In the same year, the group had their first solo performance for fans.

The team performed at the Lilia Litkovskaya fashion show and opened the week of British cinema with their concert. In addition, artists appeared on stage in honor of the birthday of Harper's Bazaar.

In 2010 Shurov and colleagues went on their first independent tour with the Pianoboy project. The recording of the debut album has begun. In 2011, the team recorded the song "Etazhi" with the Boombox group, after which they established interaction with the Music for the Masses company and Alexei Samogonov, the Boombox producer.

The author's album "Pianoboy" was released in 2012. It got the name "Simple Things". In the same year the disc won the “Discovery of the Year” prize from the radio station “Our Radio” for the song “The Witch”. At the same time, a joint recording of a cover of the song of Mikhei and "Jumanji" "For You" took place. Musicians from Boombox and TNMK also participated in the creation of the track. The release of the single "Ichthyander" also belongs to this period.

A year later, the presentation of the disc "Don't stop dreaming" took place. In parallel, Shurov continued to work as a composer and wrote the musical score for the play Cinderella. "Pianoboy" was supposed to perform in Moscow in 2014, but the concert was banned by the Russian government. Working at home, the team continued to create new compositions and released a video for the song "Letter".

In 2015, the discography of the team was replenished with the album Take Off. The title track to it was the song "The Best There Is". The album also delighted fans with the track "How are you?" Two years later, frontman Dmitry Shurov joined the jury of the X-Factor show. In 2019, "Pianoboy" recorded the song "Tsiluy mene" in a duet with the singer Shy, and in collaboration with Alina Pash, the track "Persha Ledi" and a video for this song were created.

In 2020, the band released a new album. The presentation of the album "Abandonment" took place during the COVID-19 pandemic, so the group found itself in a difficult situation. Due to the ban on public events, it was impossible to hold concerts in support of the disc, and "Pianoboy" released a video for the song "Kestrel".
